A leading digital agency in Hamburg is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead technology strategy and client engagement. The ideal candidate has over 10 years of experience in complex digital projects and deep expertise in enterprise platforms. This is a strategic expert role focused on technology strategy, solution architecture, and client partnership at the highest level. You lead through your expertise shaping the most ambitious digital projects for our key clients without formal disciplinary line management responsibilities. As a thought leader and technical conscience you will report directly to the VP Engineering DACH.
Act as the lead technology partner and trusted advisor for our most strategic accounts in the DACH region.
Drive technology consulting from early pre‑sales conversations to shaping the long‑term digital vision for leading brands.
Conceptualize and design sophisticated enterprise‑level digital platforms with a focus on E‑Commerce DXP Headless and Composable Architectures.
Ensure the successful delivery and technical excellence of your assigned accounts, serving as the primary escalation point for technical and architectural issues.
Work closely with cross‑functional leaders (Design, Strategy, Data) to create integrated and pioneering solutions.
Serve as a mentor and coach for Senior Engineers, Principals, and Associate Directors, fostering technical excellence across the organization.
Drive thought leadership by representing DEPT at events, contributing to publications, and showcasing our pioneering work.
Support strategic recruiting by identifying talent needs and participating in the evaluation of senior candidates.
Extensive experience (10 years) in a senior technical role where you have been responsible for complex, large‑scale digital projects in a digital agency or consulting environment.
Deep expertise in enterprise platform ecosystems (e.g. Adobe, Contentful, commercetools, Salesforce, Shopify, Optimizely) and a proven ability to apply modern architectures to solve complex business problems.
A compelling combination of technical depth, strategic thinking, and excellent communication and presentation skills at the C‑level.
You are a natural mentor and coach who enjoys developing the skills of others through influence and expertise.
Fluent in German and English (spoken and written) with the ability to build sustainable, trust‑based relationships with senior client stakeholders.
A passion for innovation and active engagement in the broader technology community.
