Kleinanzeigen is seeking a Director of Advertising in Berlin to lead the advertising business with full P&L ownership, drive a holistic strategy, and leverage AI to unlock new opportunities in relevance, performance, and value creation. This hybrid role is based in Berlin-Charlottenburg and reports to the Executive Leadership Team.

The role requires 10 years in digital advertising, leadership of large teams, and strong stakeholder management across Product, Technology, Analytics, and Finance.

Kleinanzeigen is the leading online classifieds market in Germany. Users buy and sell on Germany's No. 1 for classifieds mainly second-hand. On average, more than 55 million ads are available in numerous categories -- from children's supplies to electronics and real estate. Kleinanzeigen also offers small and medium-sized businesses the opportunity to present their services online. Around 35 million users per month make Kleinanzeigen one of the most widely used websites in Germany. Kleinanzeigen was launched in September 2009 as eBay Kleinanzeigen. Since June 2021, the company has been part of Adevinta, a global provider of online classified ads. In May 2023, the name was changed to Kleinanzeigen.

The Job

As Director Advertising (d/f/m), you will lead our advertising business into its next chapter, shaping a high-impact, high-yield strategy and leveraging AI to unlock new opportunities in relevance, performance, and value creation. This is a hybrid role, our office is in Berlin-Charlottenburg. You report to the Executive Leadership Team.

Job requirements

• You bring 10 years of experience in digital advertising, ideally within a marketplace, publisher, or platform, with a strong understanding of both buy- and sell-side dynamics.
• You have a proven track record of leading multidisciplinary advertising teams at scale, with full P&L accountability and a focus on yield, quality outcomes, sustainable growth, and people development.
• You have experience defining advertising strategies that balance commercial performance and advertiser relevance with platform user experience, and you are comfortable navigating the evolving AdTech and regulatory landscape.
• You bring strong strategic judgment and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across Product, Technology, Analytics, and Finance, and can translate commercial complexity into compelling narratives for executive audiences.
• You actively use and explore AI in your work and understand its potential to transform advertising products, operations, and commercial performance. You are fluent in English; professional fluency in German is a strong plus.

Job responsibilities

• Lead the Kleinanzeigen Advertising business with full P&L ownership and develop a holistic advertising strategy that balances yield, revenue, advertiser relevance, and customer experience to drive sustainable, high-quality growth.
• Lead and develop the Advertising team of 30--35 people across AdTech & Business Operations, Sales, Business Development, and Revenue Management, driving functional excellence and actively leveraging AI.
• Lead the cross-functional Advertising Business Area, collaborating closely with Advertising Product, Technology, and Analytics leaders to define business requirements, shape the product roadmap, and set quarterly objectives aligned with company goals.
• Build strategic partnerships across the advertising ecosystem and translate developments in areas such as first-party data, retail media networks, privacy regulation, and AI-driven advertising into concrete opportunities for Kleinanzeigen.
• Act as an active member of the Kleinanzeigen senior leadership team and a strategic partner to other business areas, helping them leverage advertising and performance products to maximize the value of our premium inventory.
