Zusammenfassung

Müller is building a new GCP-based DevOps Platform to power SAP integrations, e-commerce workloads, and internal apps. You will join early to shape the foundation, design, build, and operate GKE environments, and develop reusable Terraform modules and Crossplane compositions as Golden Paths for engineering teams.

You will contribute to operational excellence, security-first practices, and platform governance, collaborating with teams across Bucharest and Ulm in a hybrid model.

Qualifikationen

• Hands-on experience building and operating production-grade platforms on GCP or equivalent.
• Extensive Kubernetes (GKE) exposure including networking and Day-2 ops.
• Strong Terraform, module design, and CI/CD-driven workflows.
• Experience with Crossplane, Config Connector, or Cluster API desirable.
• Solid knowledge of GCP services: VPC, IAM, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, Cloud Logging/Monitoring, Artifact Registry.
• CI/CD tooling experience (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Argo CD, Tekton).
• Observability with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki; differentiating platform vs app metrics.
• Security-first mindset: least-privilege IAM, secret management, image scanning, GDPR data flows.
• Platform-as-a-Product mindset; customer-centric to developers; Golden Paths.
• Experience with SAP integration landscapes and event-driven architectures.
• Proficient English; German/Romanian a plus.

INTRODUCTION

We are building a new Google Cloud Platform (GCP)-based DevOps Platform for one of Europe's largest family-owned retailers - and you have the opportunity to shape its foundation from day one. As a Platform Engineer, you will design and build the cloud infrastructure that powers our SAP integrations, e-commerce platforms, and business-critical applications. From Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code to self-service platform capabilities and operational excellence, you will help create a secure, scalable, and developer-friendly platform that enables engineering teams to move faster. WHAT CONVINCES US

• Several years of hands-on experience as a Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) building and operating production-grade platforms on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or equivalent.
• In-depth experience with AWS or Microsoft Azure.
• Deep practical expertise with Kubernetes (preferably Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)), including networking, Workload Identity, autoscaling, multi-tenancy, and Day-2 operations.
• Strong knowledge of Terraform, including module design, state management, and CI/CD-driven workflows; experience with Crossplane, Config Connector, Cluster API, or comparable technologies is highly desirable.
• Solid hands-on experience with core Google Cloud Platform services, including VPC, IAM, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, and Artifact Registry.
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitLab CI; GitHub Actions, Argo CD, or Tekton are considered equivalent), as well as packaging applications using containers and Helm.
• Strong understanding of observability platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, and Loki) and the ability to distinguish meaningful platform-level versus application-level metrics.
• A security-first engineering mindset with experience implementing least-privilege IAM, secure secret management, container image scanning, and an understanding of GDPR-compliant data flows within a European multi-country environment.
• A pragmatic Platform-as-a-Product mindset – you treat developers as customers and prefer Golden Paths over one-off custom solutions.
• Experience with event-driven integration architectures and SAP integration landscapes.
• Professional proficiency in English is required; German or Romanian language skills are considered a plus.

WHAT YOU WILL DRIVE WITH US

You will be one of the first engineers joining our new GCP DevOps Platform team, working closely with the Lead Platform Engineer to shape the technical foundation from day one. You will design, build, and operate GKE-based Kubernetes environments hosting SAP integrations, e-commerce workloads, and internal business applications. You will develop reusable Terraform modules and Crossplane compositions that become Golden Paths for our application teams. You will implement the platform's core services, including networking, IAM, Secret Manager, container registry, observability, and CI/CD building blocks for application delivery pipelines. You will integrate platform capabilities into our Backstage Developer Portal, enabling application teams to provision Kubernetes namespaces, secrets, and deployment pipelines through self-service. You will establish operational excellence practices, including Service Level Objectives (SLOs), alerting, runbooks, and an effective on-call model for platform components. You will contribute to technical standards, foster a strong code review culture, and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) within our hybrid platform engineering team across Bucharest and Ulm. You will actively drive the cultural transformation from a traditional separation of Development and Operations toward true DevOps teams with end-to-end ownership, enabled by a robust platform and clearly defined interfaces.
