The role

You will join our cross-functional team dedicated to ensuring effective communication with HelloFresh customers. As a Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in implementing, and operating high-scale data processing pipelines that support our communications platform and message types such as email, SMS, and push notifications. Your team will be a place where your thoughts and opinions matter and your contributions will have a tremendous impact on the team's success.

What you’ll do

• Work collaboratively in a cross-functional team of 6-10 members, utilizing diverse technologies and frameworks
• Take ownership of the end-to-end process, including design, development, deployment, and operations of data pipelines, applying DevOps practices, pair programming, and other cutting‑edge methodologies
• Actively contribute as a solution‑oriented member within autonomous, cross‑functional agile teams, collaborating with product owners, backend engineers, mobile engineers, and business intelligence teams
• Demonstrate an in‑depth understanding of HelloFresh’s core product and architecture, serving as an ambassador for software solutions and providing support and mentorship to colleagues
• Work with state‑of‑the‑art technologies like AWS EMR, Kafka, PySpark, Kubernetes, Airflow, and more

What you’ll bring

• Solid software engineering experience with the ability to design, implement, and deliver maintainable, high‑quality code in Python/PySpark
• Hands‑on experience with cloud computing and data processing technologies, including Spark, Amazon EMR, Kubernetes, and Kafka
• Proficiency in data modeling, relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), and object stores (e.g., AWS S3)
• Expertise in end‑to‑end development processes, including unit, integration & functional testing, application tuning/profiling, and continuous integration
• Demonstrated experience with agile methodologies, with a strong focus on delivery, lean thinking, and quick iterations
• A continuous learner who seeks to develop your skills and learn from peers
• Thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys mentoring team members, while also sharing practical knowledge and trends
• Experience with event‑driven architecture is nice to have
• Bonus points for practical experience integrating marketing providers such as Iterable, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and HubSpot
