Job Description
As a D365 Senior Consultant, you will provide senior functional leadership for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management across a high-volume hospitality and food distribution environment. The role will translate operational priorities into scalable solutions that strengthen planning, procurement, inventory, warehousing, manufacturing, and logistics processes.
You will shape the functional approach from early discovery through design, configuration, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement. Success will be demonstrated through well-governed solutions, confident business adoption, reliable delivery, and tangible improvements in operational control and efficiency.
Working across business and technology teams, you will lead complex discussions, clarify requirements, challenge inefficient processes, and ensure that D365 capabilities are used effectively before customisation is considered. The position also carries a strong advisory and mentoring remit, helping colleagues and delivery partners maintain high standards of functional quality.
Based in Milton Keynes, you will engage with stakeholders across corporate, operational, and potentially site-based environments. The role requires a practical senior consultant who can combine detailed Dynamics expertise with sound judgement, clear communication, and an understanding of enterprise change.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the functional direction for D365 Supply Chain Management initiatives across procurement, inventory, warehousing, manufacturing, planning, and logistics.
- Facilitate structured discovery sessions and translate complex operational needs into clear, prioritised requirements.
- Evaluate current processes, identify control or efficiency gaps, and recommend solutions aligned with Microsoft best practice.
- Lead fit-gap assessments, solution design decisions, functional configuration, and readiness activities for assigned workstreams.
- Define end-to-end business processes covering purchasing, inbound supply, stock management, warehouse execution, production, replenishment, and distribution.
- Prepare process models, functional specifications, configuration workbooks, acceptance criteria, test scenarios, and implementation documentation.
- Coordinate with architects, developers, integration specialists, data teams, vendors, and operational subject matter experts.
- Review proposed extensions and integrations to ensure they are proportionate, maintainable, and consistent with the wider D365 landscape.
- Direct functional testing, defect triage, business validation, user acceptance testing, cutover planning, and early-life support.
- Advise senior stakeholders on risks, dependencies, delivery options, and the operational implications of design choices.
- Promote effective adoption by supporting training, communications, process ownership, and post-go-live improvement plans.
- Coach junior consultants and contribute reusable methods, standards, and knowledge to strengthen delivery capability.
- Track Microsoft product developments and assess opportunities to improve the organisation’s use of standard D365 functionality.
Requirements
- Substantial experience delivering functional consulting assignments in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and the transition of established processes into D365 environments.
- Strong functional capability across warehouse management, inventory, procurement and sourcing, production control, manufacturing, and master planning.
- Hands‑on understanding of Advanced Warehouse Management, including the relationship between warehouse execution, inventory, mobile processes, and fulfilment.
- Evidence of contributing to or leading complete delivery lifecycles from discovery and design through testing, deployment, and adoption.
- Ability to facilitate workshops with operational and senior stakeholders, including the confidence to challenge requirements constructively.
- Experience producing precise functional designs, process documentation, test materials, decision records, and implementation guidance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess dependencies, define practical options, and explain technical matters in business language.
- Demonstrable experience working within multidisciplinary delivery teams and managing relationships with external partners.
- Capability to provide direction, quality assurance, and mentoring to less experienced consultants.
- Willingness to travel to operational locations when project delivery or stakeholder engagement requires it.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management certification would be advantageous.
- Experience in retail, food production, hospitality, logistics, distribution, or another high-volume operational sector would be valuable.
- A degree or equivalent professional background in information systems, technology, business, supply chain, or a related discipline would be beneficial.
Benefits
- Work on enterprise-scale Dynamics 365 programmes that influence supply chain and operational performance across a broad international network.
- Gain exposure to the distinctive systems, controls, and delivery challenges of a major food and hospitality operation.
- Take visible ownership of solution design and improvement initiatives rather than operating solely within a narrowly defined delivery function.
- Collaborate with senior business leaders, technology specialists, operational experts, and implementation partners.
- Build further expertise across D365 Supply Chain Management, advanced warehousing, manufacturing, distribution, and integrated enterprise processes.
- Access opportunities to share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and shape functional standards across the wider transformation environment.
- Receive the systems, governance frameworks, and delivery resources required to manage complex programmes effectively.
- Benefit from a role based in Milton Keynes with the variety and influence associated with a large, geographically distributed operation.
Other
This position suits a senior Dynamics professional who is comfortable operating between strategic design and detailed functional delivery. The successful individual will bring the judgement to protect standard D365 capability, the curiosity to understand frontline operations, and the communication skills to turn complex change into workable outcomes.
Applications are particularly relevant from consultants who have delivered solutions in supply chain, manufacturing, warehousing, retail, food production, logistics, distribution, or other environments where availability, accuracy, speed, and process discipline are critical. Some travel to operational sites may be required, with expectations agreed according to programme needs.
