Zusammenfassung

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to lead project teams and integrate Fluence BESS control systems into EMS platforms. You will design control logic for both remote and local operations, guide field engineers, and contribute to product development for utility-scale energy storage.

We value expertise in EMS, grid codes, and multiple protocols, with strong Linux, Python, C/C++, and Simulink skills. English and German fluency needed; travel across EMEA expected.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in engineering with automation/controls.
• 5+ years in controls, software, or programming in power utility or similar.
• Experience designing, operating, and maintaining a power plant.
• Expertise in EMS, grid-code analysis and grid services.
• Proficient with IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, IEC 61850 MMS, DNP3, Modbus, TCP/IP.
• Proficient in Linux, Python, shell scripting, and GitHub.
• Experience with Simulink, C, and C++.
• Experience with high-voltage equipment maintenance.
• Fluent in English and German; other languages desired.

Aufgaben

• Lead project teams in realizing project-specific requirements as Controls expert.
• Lead integration of Fluence BESS control system into TSO EMS systems.
• Develop logic and control schemes for remote and local BESS operation to meet TSO needs.
• Guide field engineers in resolving controls-related issues during commissioning and testing.
• Contribute to product development engineering for utility-scale energy storage, including controls development and testing.
• Develop standardized FAT/SAT test procedures and execute tests to reduce commissioning time.
• Hands-on laboratory testing during prototype system evaluations.
• Manage client and subcontractor interfaces to ensure Controls compliance during tender and project execution.
• Develop and maintain documentation for Controls infrastructure, including hardware, applications, protocols, communication links, and backup/recovery strategies.
• Maintain knowledge of company products and projects relevant to site- and enterprise-level Controls networks.
• Manage change-control procedures and documentation.
• Monitor industry best practices and technology developments.
• Support company strategy and provide reporting and updates to leadership.
• Develop and recommend performance management and KPIs for Controls technical support.
• Execute tasks related to Fluence safety KPIs.
• Travel throughout EMEA.

• Develop logic and control schemes for remote and local BESS operation to meet TSO requirements

Requirements

• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in computer or industrial engineering with a focus on automation and controls, or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years of relevant Controls, software, or programming experience in a power utility or related industry
• Experience designing, operating, and maintaining a power plant
• Expertise in electricity transmission/distribution, EMS systems, grid-code and requirements analysis, and grid-services algorithms
• Expertise with IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, IEC 61850 MMS, DNP3, Modbus, TCP/IP, PLCs, RTUs, SEL RTAC, SEL relays and meters, Siemens relays and meters, SCADA gateways, and data concentrators
• Experience with Linux systems and commands, Python, shell/bash scripting, and GitHub
• Experience with MathWorks Simulink, C, and C++
• Expertise designing, operating, and maintaining high-voltage electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, I/O racks, telecommunications, and controllers
• Solution-oriented mindset
• Good communication skills
• Fluency in English and German; other language skills desired
