Job Description

This position provides primary accountability for the development and construction of assigned major construction projects providing facilities with a spiritual setting where Church members can work, worship, teach, learn, pray together, make and renew covenants, and receive sacred ordinances, presenting an image of reverence and dignity in the community.

Such projects include renovations/expansions of new and existing meetinghouses, standard type buildings, mission homes/offices, church education system (CES), seminaries and small institutes, small welfare projects, distribution centers, and large Replacement and Improvement (R&I) projects.

Incumbent is expected to meet performance standards associated with the budgets, schedules, safety, and quality objectives of the Meetinghouse Facilities Department (MFD) while coordinating with leaders, architects, engineers, and contractors.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct the work of qualified service providers, such as architects, engineers, consultants, vendors, and contractors to achieve required performance standards; seek and provide input to continually improve results.
  • Analyze and interpret project information to identify opportunities to continuously improve performance standards in cost, quality, and timeliness.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert to other related functions, such as operations and maintenance (O&M), by providing expertise and services as needed, including risk management strategies.
  • Oversee the strategic, timely, and cost-effective acquisition and leasing of real estate properties to anticipate impact on construction costs and schedule requirements.
  • Advise and provide effective project planning and management support to local church leaders to resolve their problems within established policy.
  • Own and lead coordination and collaboration efforts with management and external stakeholders, including public administration offices.
  • Continue developing professional skills through training and learning opportunities to enhance professional competence.
  • Mentor junior project managers and contribute to professional development initiatives within the department.
  • Manage large-scale or high-impact projects.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent construction projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategic priorities.
  • Coordinate and participate in pre-construction planning efforts.
  • Execute complex, high-impact professional duties requiring significant independent judgement and minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Maintain project files and records, including submittals, change orders, and progress reports in accordance with established controls and compliance standards, documenting process and policy adjustments for continual improvement.
Qualifications
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints.
  • University degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture (or local equivalent).
  • Minimum of 8 years of direclty related experience in the construction field, in construction management or with a strong building background (e.g. firm owner, project manager, or superintendent).
  • Knowledge and experience in construction project management, including estimating, scheduling, and project analysis.
  • Proven leadership, business, management and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and courteously with priesthood leaders, managers, colleagues, real estate representatives, architects, engineers, contractors, city building officials, governmental agencies, neighborhood associations, zoning review boards, and similar authorities.
  • Effective public relations skills with a proven ability to manage people and multiple projects.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to work well with and through others, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
  • Experience leading cross-functional collaboration across ecclesiastical, real estate, operations, legal, and finance functions.
  • Proven front-line management skills in a multi-disciplinary environment, with the ability to handle difficult situations and achieve a positive and appropriate resolution.
  • Strong and proven customer service experience, demonstrating responsiveness and the ability to address a variety of needs.
  • Proficiency in computer software for project cost control and scheduling, including tools to analyze and report on performance for schedules, budgets, safety and other key metrics. Demonstrated proficiency with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, department-specific software, web-based programs, internet services, and wireless communications. Proven ability to learn new software tools as required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to travel extensively for site inspections, including flying as needed. Residence near a major European metropolitan area with convenient access to a major airport is preferred.
  • Advanced English proficiency required to communicate complex ideas verbally and in writting. Proficiency in an additional European language is an advantage.

    While the role is primarily based in Frankfurt, Germany, candidates from other European capital cities could be considered.
