Mission
As a Cloud Engineer in the Cloud Squad you are responsible for designing building and operating the core cloud platform capabilities at . You ensure product teams can use Google Cloud Platform securely efficiently and autonomously while keeping governance cost transparency and compliance in place. You work closely with other teams of the organization (e.g. CISO procurement legal) to drive security initiatives and integrate third‑party providers into METROs cloud security governance model. Likewise you are on the forefront of securing a complex Google Cloud organization and directly work with Googles engineering teams to shape their governance products.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the architecture and technical direction of Metros cloud services :
- Automatic budget and security policy violation notifications
- Cloud‑to‑data‑center connectivity
- Self‑service Google project creation
- Self‑service IAM & group management
- Governance & access to GCP‑native services
- Cloud identity management
- Customer dashboard for spend & security findings
- Internal marketplace for shared services
- Easy‑to‑use technical DNS zones
- Ensure services are built with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) automation and observability.
- Write and maintain Go‑based services that power METROs cloud governance.
- Mentor and coach other engineers in the squad supporting them in delivery and personal growth.
- Work closely with the service manager to prioritize backlog and balance feature delivery with operational stability.
- Act as a cloud adoption enabler for product teams helping them use GCP effectively and securely.
- Engage with other squads in the infrastructure and application operation platform to ensure integration and alignment across services.
Qualifications
- Deep experience with the Google Cloud Platform (IAM organization policies VPC DNS Cloud Storage serverless computing services e.g. Cloud Run Pub / Sub BigQuery Cloud Monitoring).
- Strong understanding of security in cloud environments (policies IAM roles compliance) and preferably how to accomplish it at scale.
- Strong skills in Terraform and automation of cloud infrastructure.
- Knowledge of cloud networking (VPC peering VPN Interconnect) and hybrid cloud scenarios.
- Proficiency in modern programming languages (preferably Go).
- Experience with cost management and budgeting practices.
- Proven experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers.
- Excellent problem‑solving communication and collaboration skills.
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
