EMBL in Heidelberg is seeking an experienced Building Technician to lead the design and rollout of a CAFM system, integrating BIM, Revit and 3D models into facilities planning. You will collaborate with architects and engineers, manage data structures and execution plans for refurbishments, and ensure compliance with DIN standards while shaping Facility Management for years to come.
The role offers early responsibility, international collaboration, and opportunities for professional development
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the world’s leading basic research institutions in the life sciences. In addition to its main laboratory in Heidelberg, EMBL operates sites in Hinxton (EMBL-EBI, United Kingdom), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Barcelona (Spain) and Rome (Italy).
The Facility Management team at EMBL’s Heidelberg headquarters is at the start of implementing a CAFM system – and you’ll play a leading role in shaping that process. Reporting to the Head of Facility Management, you will:
From day one, you’ll take on real responsibility – not support work, but your own projects. Flexible hours, short decision paths, and a team that backs each other up rather than just clocking in and out. We’re on the verge of implementing a CAFM system – you won’t just be a user, you’ll help shape how processes, data structures and standards look going forward. Your experience and input feed directly into decisions that will shape Facility Management for years to come. Further training here isn’t just talk – it’s part of the job.
EMBL is committed to equal opportunity – what matters to us is what you can do.
Contract duration: 3 years (renewable up to 9 in total)
Salary: Grade 4, monthly salary from 3.812,27 after tax, plus generous benefits and financial allowances based on individual circumstances. Excluding 12.99% personal pension and insurance contributions.
EMBL is curiosity-driven, community-oriented and international. As an inclusive, equal opportunity employer, we believe that diversity enables us to collaborate more effectively and be innovative in our approaches. We are, therefore, committed to creating an inclusive and flexible culture - one where everyone can realise their full potential and make a positive contribution to our organisation.
We encourage applications from individuals who can complement our existing team – we believe that success is built on having teams whose backgrounds and personal experiences reflect the diversity of the populations that our science serves. We actively encourage applications from all genders and cultures, ethnic groups and all demographics to help us avoid perpetuating biases and oversights at this transformational point in our people strategy.
