We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in the Molecular Neuropathology Group (headed by Prof. Dr. Sascha Weggen) at our Department of Neuropathology. The group focuses on disease mechanisms and the development of novel treatment modalities for Alzheimer’s disease using advanced molecular, biochemical, and medicinal chemistry approaches. The research project will investigate the role of ADAMTS proteases in Alzheimer’s disease (refer to Walter 2019, Acta Neuropathol 137:239-57). The successful candidate will join a dynamic, stimulating, and collaborative working environment with excellent research facilities. Postdoctoral Scientist Position in Alzheimer’s Disease Research

This position is defined as a qualification role under the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).

  • Overarching aim of the employment is to achieve scientific independence, with a strong focus on acquiring competencies in scientific project implementation.
  • The position is available immediately, initially for two years with the possibility of extension.
  • The salary will be in accordance with TV-L E13. The employment contract will be concluded with Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
Your Profile
  • Doctorate or Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related discipline
  • Successful publication of your doctoral thesis project in a journal with solid scientific reputation
  • Comprehensive experience in biochemical and molecular biology techniques, with strong skills in tissue culture
  • Prior experience with stem cells, gene editing, and murine animal models is advantageous
  • High motivation, dedication, and a passion for making a difference through basic research
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English
  • Working Hours: 38.5 hours per week
