Zusammenfassung

Die Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München sucht eine/n Bioinformatik-/Research Software Engineer mit IT-Infrastruktur-Verantwortung in München. Die Stelle umfasst die Entwicklung von Bioinformatik-Workflows, die Integration von Multi-Omics-Daten und die Bereitstellung von IT-Support sowie HPC-Ressourcen.

Sie arbeiten an der Schnittstelle von Data Science, Computational Biology und Neuroepigenetik, tragen zur Publikationstätigkeit bei und gestalten die zukünftige IT-Infrastruktur des Biomedical

Qualifikationen

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Sehr gute Kenntnisse in Linux-Umgebungen und Hochleistungsrechnersystemen.
  • Erfahrung mit Workflow-Management-Systemen (Nextflow, Snakemake).
  • NGS-Datenformate (FASTQ, BAM, VCF) und Bioinformatik-Tools.
  • Ausgeprägte Fähigkeiten in Python und/oder R; Unix-Sysadmin-Erfahrung wünschenswert.
  • Gute Englischkenntnisse; Deutschkenntnisse vorteilhaft.

Aufgaben

  • Entwicklung und Wartung von Bioinformatik-Workflows für NGS-Daten.
  • Entwicklung von Methoden zur Integration und Modellierung von Multi-Omics-Daten.
  • Explorative Datenanalyse großer genomischer und epigenomischer Datensätze.
  • IT-Support für wissenschaftliche und nicht-wissenschaftliche Nutzer.
  • Planung und Optimierung der Recheninfrastruktur (Server, Speicher, Backup, HPC).
  • Durchführung eigenständiger Forschungsprojekte an der Schnittstelle von Data Science, Computational Biology und Neuroepigenetik.
  • Mitwirkung an Publikationen und Präsentationen.

About Us

Our research lies at the intersection of data science, computational biology, and neuroepigenetics. We develop novel computational methods for the integration and analysis of multi-omics data to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying brain cell function, brain aging, and neurodegenerative diseases.

The position

We offer a two-year postdoctoral position with the possibility of extension. The scientific focus of the position is the development and application of computational methods for the analysis and integration of next-generation sequencing and single-cell multi-omics data in the context of neuroepigenetics.

The successful candidate will contribute to all stages of the research process, from project design and data analysis to workflow and software development, scientific interpretation, and publication.

The position also includes daily maintenance and user support as well as long-term planning of our IT infrastructure (servers, storage, backup solutions, high performance computing) for a research institute generating and analysing large amounts of imaging and sequencing data.

Your Tasks And Responsibilities
  • Development and maintenance of bioinformatics workflows for the analysis of next-generation sequencing data
  • Development of computational methods for the integration and modeling of multi-omics data
  • Advanced exploratory data analysis of large-scale genomic and epigenomic datasets
  • IT support of scientific and non-scientific users
  • Planning and optimization of computational infrastructure (e.g. servers, storage, backup systems, and high-performance computing resources)
  • Design and execution of independent research projects at the interface of data science, computational biology and neuroepigenetics
  • Contribution to scientific publications and presentations
Your Qualifications
  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Strong proficiency in Linux-based computational environments and experience with high-performance computing systems
  • Experience with workflow management systems (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake)
  • Familiarity with NGS data formats (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF) and bioinformatics tools
  • Demonstrated experience in exploratory data analysis and the interpretation of complex biological datasets
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and/or R
  • Experience in system administration
  • High degree of self-motivation, communication skills and competence
  • Strong written and spoken English skills, good working German knowledge is desirable
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with single-cell sequencing data, including scRNA-seq and/or scATAC-seq
  • Experience with bulk epigenomic data, including WGBS, RRBS, ChIP-seqand/or CUT&Tag
