We are currently looking for a Backup Engineer to join our Infrastructure Technology team and support a dynamic, international client environment. In this role, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing a rapidly growing backup infrastructure, ensuring reliability, performance, and data protection across systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of new technologies within a large-scale systems environment, including advising on design concepts, implementation strategies, and deployment timelines
- Collaborate closely with engineers, software developers, and system analysts to design effective and integrated solutions
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of infrastructure solutions in coordination with technical architects
- Provide reliable operational support for backup infrastructure and ensure high system availability
- Monitor production environments and take proactive corrective actions when required
- Analyze backup capacity, utilization trends, and system performance, and provide recommendations for optimization and scalability
- Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly backup reports
- Ensure that all production systems are properly backed up and maintained in an optimal configuration
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and support the deployment and upgrade of backup solutions
- Participate in the full lifecycle of backup and storage solutions, including planning, design, build, testing, and transition to operations
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and suppliers on procurement, support, and maintenance topics
- Create and maintain comprehensive operational documentation for all data protection services
- Support audit processes and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including GDPR
- Contribute to performance management and capacity planning for backup infrastructure
- Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate with development teams to implement improvements
- Apply ITIL-based service delivery practices, including Incident, Problem, Change, Configuration, and Release Management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a comparable qualification
- Strong expertise in backup technologies such as NetBackup, Networker, Arcserve, Veeam, NetBackup Appliances, and Data Domain
- Hands‑on experience with backup configuration and restoration for agent‑based backups (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL, Exchange, PostgreSQL, Active Directory) using NetBackup and Veeam
- Practical experience across all levels of support, including implementation of backup & restore solutions and preparation of disaster recovery (DR) plans
- Solid understanding of SAN and NAS storage environments
- Experience working with VMware ESXi and vSphere
- Strong knowledge of UNIX and Linux operating systems, network protocols, and file systems (e.g. LVM, VXVM)
- Hands‑on experience with hardware‑level troubleshooting
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Strong team player with good interpersonal skills
- Very good English skills, both written and spoken
