Sixteen Tons Entertainment is looking for an Art Lead to help shape a future free-to-play mobile game that will expand our portfolio and define the next chapter of our studio.
About the Role
As Art Lead, you will define and drive the visual direction of a new game from the ground up. You will work closely with Game Design, Product, Engineering, and Production to create a style that is visually strong, player-friendly, technically feasible, and scalable for a live game environment. You should understand the production and technical implications of visual decisions — especially when it comes to choosing and evolving the right 2D, 3D, or hybrid art approach.
Your Impact
- Define, communicate, and champion the visual direction of the game
- Maintain a high quality bar across characters, environments, UI, features, and live content
- Guide artists through feedback, mentoring, paintovers, reviews, and hands-on visual direction
- Help define scalable art workflows, pipelines, and asset production processes
- Collaborate with Design, Product, Engineering, and Production to align visual ambition with gameplay, performance, and development needs
- Ensure the art direction supports readability, usability, player motivation, and long-term live game production
About You
- Strong experience in visual leadership, art direction, and creative problem solving
- Proven track record creating or directing high-quality game art, supported by a strong portfolio
- Experience working on mobile free-to-play and/or live games
- Understanding of how art supports readability, usability, player engagement, content production, events, and monetization
- Excellent eye for composition, lighting, color, shape language, and visual clarity
- Good understanding of game art pipelines from concept to implementation
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with artists, designers, engineers, product, and production
Nice to Have
- Experience working with Unity
- Understanding of 2D/3D hybrid workflows
- Knowledge of animation, VFX, technical art, or optimization workflows
- Experience with visual storytelling
- Interest in AI-assisted creative workflows for visual exploration, iteration, and scalable production, while maintaining quality, style consistency, and human artistic judgment
Why Join Us
- Shape the visual direction of a new game from the very beginning
- Help define the next chapter of Sixteen Tons Entertainment
- Work with high ownership and visible impact from day one
- Join an experienced team with a strong legacy in simulation, strategy, and live games
- Create an art direction and production approach that can scale for a long-term free-to-play game
