Job summary

AltaSigma GmbH in Ulm or Stuttgart is building an Enterprise AI Platform to turn advanced technology into measurable business value. We seek an AI Engineer to design and productionize LLM-based systems and agents.

You will work with data, APIs, and knowledge graphs, choose models, and ensure robust, scalable deployments. German and English fluency required, hands-on Python, PySpark, and containerized cloud workflows.

Qualifications

• Degree in CS/Math/Physics or comparable field.
• Hands-on experience with data science or ML engineering in production.
• Strong Python skills and familiarity with PySpark.
• Experience with LLM stacks and agent systems.
• Knowledge of modern data lake architectures and tooling.

Responsibilities

• Develop LLM and agent systems for production use (RAG pipelines, tool integration, orchestration).
• Connect agents to data and systems via SQL or APIs; build MCP servers and knowledge graphs where needed.
• Build data foundations for AI apps: data pipelines, data modeling, data quality.
• Select and evaluate models for specific use cases with benchmarking.
• Develop production-ready solutions using AI in daily work and for customer use cases.
• Translate business requirements into robust software with measurable value.
• Contribute ideas to improve the AI platform and its capabilities.

We deliberately draw on a broad range of methods: from traditional machine learning and deep learning to time-series models, LLMs, RAG and agentic AI.

At AltaSigma, your work goes beyond concepts. You work on real use cases, real data and real customer requirements. You develop solutions that are actually implemented and used — with a clear focus on practical application, technical quality and visible impact.

• You will develop LLM and agent systems for production use: from RAG pipelines, tool integration and orchestration to integration with our AI platform. You see robustness, evaluation and operations as integral parts of the solution.
• You will connect agents to the data and systems they need. You will develop your own MCP servers that access indexed knowledge bases or interact directly with source systems through SQL or APIs. Where appropriate, you will build knowledge graphs or implement other suitable indexing methods.
• You will build the data foundation for intelligent applications: integrating diverse data sources, developing and optimizing data pipelines, and modeling data for analytics and AI applications. You will account for data quality, data management and a scalable data architecture.
• You will select and evaluate models for each specific use case — using systematic benchmarking rather than gut feeling.
• You will develop solutions for real customer applications, not to sit on a shelf. You will actively use AI in your own day‑to‑day work, from AI‑assisted coding to building your own agents.
• You will analyze business requirements and translate them into technically robust solutions with clear business value, working closely with our customers.
• You will actively contribute your ideas to the ongoing development of our AI platform and help shape its future capabilities and performance.
• A degree in computer science, mathematics, physics or a comparable field.
• Practical experience as a Data Scientist or ML Engineer — you have brought LLM systems into production and understand what matters in real‑world deployment.
• Confident, hands‑on Python skills — from quickly exploring data to developing production‑ready components. You are familiar with PySpark and modern lakehouse formats such as Delta or Iceberg.
• Experience with the LLM stack: RAG pipelines, LLM frameworks, vector databases and indexing methods. You know how to give agents access to tools and data — ideally, you have already developed your own MCP servers.
• A solid understanding of machine learning and current developments around LLMs and agent systems. You know when to use which approach — and where its limitations are.
• Experience with containers, Kubernetes and CI/CD, as well as cloud experience with AWS, Azure or GCP, is a plus. AltaSigma itself is cloud‑agnostic.
• You want to do more than build prototypes. You want to build systems that hold up in production. You think from the concrete use case and business value, always keeping the application context in mind.
• You take ownership of your topics — from the first concept to production deployment. You approach complex challenges in a structured way and find pragmatic, workable solutions.
