This position is for the Qualcomm Automotive Engineering team, which closely collaborates with its automotive partners and customers from concept to commercialization. The team is involved with all aspects of embedded software such as SW & HW designs, feature prototyping, feature development, integration, customization, performance optimisations, and other debugging efforts, which are key to a successful product launch.

We are looking for a strong software engineer (m/w/d) with hands‑on experience in the design, development and debugging aspects of board support packages (BSP) and the generic software platform. The position is part of a regional expert team responsible for providing consultation to Qualcomm customers and partners to accomplish their design and development goals. Topics such as debugging of Qualcomm SW related issues and helping to customise or optimise software using the features in the Qualcomm SOC play a major role in the daily work. The candidate must quickly ramp up onto existing projects, understand automotive platform hardware and software driver architecture, demonstrate strong analytical and systematic problem‑solving abilities, and be happy to work with external customers to customise and launch their new products.

The successful candidate will get a chance to work on cutting‑edge infotainment/digital cockpit and ADAS technologies from leading auto manufacturers and Tier‑1 suppliers, contributing to push the projects through to commercialisation.

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years software applications engineering, software development experience, or related work experience.
• 7+ years development or debugging experience with high‑level operating systems (QNX, Linux and Android).
• Very solid experience with embedded software development, integration, debugging.
• Experience with C/C++ programming and modern scripting languages.
• Generic understanding of the boot process and system architecture of ARM Cortex‑A/X based SoC systems, including MMU/SMMU, virtualization and ARM TrustZone.
• Excellent issue triage and debugging skills with complex system‑level issues.
• Intrinsic desire for systematic working and ability to deliver high quality results in a stressful environment.
• Good communication and excellent teamwork skills.
• Fearless and able to focus on technical topics in highly escalated situations.
• Quick adaptability to work with new technologies.
• Ability to take up project management responsibilities.
• Badass debugging capabilities and ability to understand problems in a larger picture.
• Basic understanding of software development processes.
• Driving licence for Germany and ability to freely travel within Europe and North America on short notice.
• Ability to get recognised in a small cross‑functional team and mentor junior team members in technical topics.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with automotive infotainment or ADAS projects.
• Experience with manufacturing and testing of automotive systems.
• Experience in using debugging tools such as JTAG, ftrace or GDB.
• Ability to work with common test equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyser, spectrum analyser, multimeter).
• Experience with serial peripherals like UART, SPI, I2C, PCIe on hardware and software aspects.
• Experience with complex interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, CSI, DSI or HDMI.
• Experience with storage peripherals like UFS, eMMC or NVMe.
• Deep understanding of the ARM architecture; experience with working with schematics and doing basic hardware reworks.
• Exposure to secure boot and trusted operating systems concepts.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Electronics, or related field (Masters preferred).

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of software applications engineering or related experience.
• Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and 3+ years of software applications engineering or related experience.
• PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and 2+ years of software applications engineering or related experience.
• 2+ years of experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, or equivalent.
• 1+ year of experience with debugging techniques.
