Job summary

Helios Software Group, part of Valsoft Corporation, is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to manage day-to-day German accounting in a fully remote role across Europe. You will support month-end close, VAT filings and intercompany reconciliations, working with our finance team and payroll provider.

Requirements include 3+ years in German accounting, SaaS experience, and strong Excel/NetSuite skills. Fluent German and English, with capability to work remotely from Europe.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting experience in German accounting (HGB) and German tax requirements.
• Experience in the software/SaaS industry.
• Multi-currency or multi-entity experience is a plus.
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel; NetSuite is a plus.
• Detail-oriented, diligent and self-motivated with proactive communication.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end and year-end close for German entities with journal entries and analysis.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and support review processes.
• Handle German VAT filings and payroll tax filings with payroll provider and tax advisor.
• Process payments, bank transfers and ensure approvals are in place.
• Reconcile intercompany transactions and support budgeting/forecast variance analysis.
• Assist with annual financial statements under HGB, audits and tax filings.
• Improve controls, clean up messy ledgers and implement proper structures.
• Prepare financial KPIs and reporting for the finance team.

Job description

Helios Software Group is looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated Accountant to join our growing finance team. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day accounting of our German operations.

Helios is part of Valsoft Corporation, an international group that acquires and grows vertical market software businesses. As part of Valsoft, you’ll benefit from the stability of a large group while working in a hands-on, entrepreneurial team.

You will report toDirector of Finance/ Head of Finance and work closely with the wider finance team. This is a fully remote role open to candidates located in Europe.

What your day will look like:

• Support month-end and year-end close for our German entities, including journal entries and accounting analysis.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and support their review.
• Follow up with vendors on missing invoices and prepare cost accruals for the P&L review.
• Process payments and bank transfers, and make sure approvals are in place.
• Reconcile intercompany transactions.
• Prepare German VAT filings (Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung, Zusammenfassende Meldung) and support payroll tax filings (Lohnsteuer-Anmeldung) together with our payroll provider and tax advisor.
• Support the annual financial statements under HGB, statutory audits and tax filings.
• Help make sure key controls and procedures are followed. Where processes or ledgers are messy or out of date, help clean them up and put proper structures in place.
• Prepare financial KPIs and reporting for the finance team, and check them for accuracy.
• Support the monthly variance analysis of actuals against budget and forecast.
• Work closely with the finance team on daily operations, reporting and special projects.

About you:

• At least 3 years of accounting experience, with hands-on experience in German accounting (HGB) and German tax requirements.
• Experience in the software / SaaS industry.
• Multi-currency or multi-entity experience is a plus.
• Solid understanding of accrual accounting.
• A professional qualification in accounting or bookkeeping is an asset.
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel. NetSuite experience is a plus.
• Detail-oriented and diligent. You take accuracy seriously and your work is reliable.
• Not afraid of cleaning things up. You enjoy bringing order to messy ledgers, open items and old processes.
• Self-motivated. You work independently in a remote setup, take ownership and act on your own initiative.
• A team player who enjoys working closely with colleagues and communicates proactively, even remotely.
• Curious and quick to learn new systems, with the wish to grow and take on more responsibility over time.
• Fluent German and English (written and spoken).
• Based in Europe and authorized to work in your country of residence. Being located in or near Berlin is a plus.
