Jobbeschreibung

In today’s digital world, payments often still feel outdated: random delays and confusing rules make it harder than it should be to pay and get paid. The European Payments Initiative (EPI) is here to change all that, forever.

With Wero, our digital wallet, we make sending and receiving money simple, seamless and secure across France, Belgium and Germany, with more countries and omnichannel solutions coming soon. Supported by 16 major banks and the two largest European acquirers, EPI is building a new, proudly European payment system: easy, instant and transparent, all for the greater good.

What’s In It For You

Join EPI and help shape the future of merchant acceptance in one of Europe’s largest markets. You will drive the adoption of Wero among German‑speaking merchants, influence the development of new acceptance verticals, and have a direct impact on the growth of a truly European payment solution. At EPI, we embrace a remote‑first culture, enabling our teams to work from the country they’re based in, with in‑person meetings at least once a quarter to foster collaboration and connection.

About The Team

You will report to the Director Market Acceptance DE and work closely with colleagues across Europe (Business Acceptance, Marketing, Product…). The environment is remote‑first, highly cross‑functional and international, with regular touch points and in‑person gatherings for key milestones.

Your Impact
As Merchant Acceptance Manager Germany & Austria, you will be a key driver of Wero’s merchant‑side expansion across the DACH region.

You will:

Develop and drive merchant acceptance
  • Identify, engage and activate priority German‑speaking merchants to adopt and prioritize Wero.
  • Support the development of new acceptance verticals (public transport, POS activation, mobility, services…).
  • Be the primary point of contact for merchants through onboarding and activation.
Support merchants throughout onboarding & activation
  • Ensure merchants follow the required onboarding steps and meet PSP‑related activation prerequisites.
  • Act as the operational liaison between merchants, acquirers and EPI teams.
  • Guide merchants through Wero implementation, answering functional and technical questions.
Represent Wero across the European ecosystem
  • Participate in key industry events, associations and forums to increase awareness and adoption.
  • Monitor market dynamics and competitive offerings to feed into EPI’s acceptance strategy.
Bridge merchant needs with internal teams
  • Translate merchant feedback into actionable insights for Product, Scheme, Pricing and Membership teams.
  • Ensure acceptance requirements are clearly communicated and prioritized internally.
  • Stay up‑to‑date on product details to guide merchants effectively.
Provide visibility through structured reporting
  • Maintain an updated pipeline and activity tracking.

Synthesize and present merchant progress and market insights to support strategic decisions.

Technology stack
  • Atlassian suite
  • HubSpot CRM
  • Microsoft Office Suite
To succeed, you should meet at least 70% of these requirements
Must‑haves
  • 6+ years of experience in payments, business development or related domains, with direct exposure to merchants and/or payment acceptance.
  • Strong knowledge of the German payment ecosystem.
  • Experience in payment business development or payment strategy.
  • Background in project and/or product management.
  • Proven ability to drive merchants or partners through onboarding and activation processes.
  • Excellent relationship‑building skills with stakeholders across merchants, partners and internal teams.
  • Comfortable operating in a remote‑first, multicultural and fast‑evolving environment.
  • Shares our values: curiosity, resilience, optimism, autonomy and initiative.
  • Strong sense of ownership, structure and prioritization.
  • German: fluent (mandatory)
  • English: professional proficiency (mandatory)
Nice‑to‑haves
  • Experience working with acquirers, large merchants or public acceptance players.
  • Knowledge of German public acceptance sectors (transport, utilities, mobility, public services…).
  • Exposure to product lifecycle phases or merchant integration projects.
  • Experience collaborating with industry bodies, merchant associations or institutional groups.
  • Public‑speaking experience (moderating panels, hosting sessions, presenting to senior audiences).
