Job summary

Pond & Company is seeking a Substation Engineer based in our Bogotá, Colombia office to support US electric utility projects. You will design protection and control systems for substations, from distribution to transmission, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and client requirements.

You will develop drawings, perform critical calculations, review packages, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and to high quality standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in substation engineering with focus on protection and control.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience developing protection and control drawings and construction deliverables.
• Familiarity with relay protection schemes and protection philosophies.
• Basic understanding of SCADA and substation communications.
• Experience performing electrical engineering calculations for substation design.
• Proficiency with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with NESC, IEEE and utility codes and standards.
• Experience supporting U.S.-based utility or consulting projects preferred.
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher.
• Strong communication and collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Commitment to technical excellence and development.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation design drawings: single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, relay layouts and control building layouts.
• Prepare and review protection and control design packages for substations.
• Perform engineering calculations: battery sizing, station service sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill.
• Apply relay protection schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
• Develop equipment and construction specifications and work scopes.
• Support SCADA integration with engineering and client teams.
• Review designs for technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and ensure adherence to standards.
• Support construction activities and field investigations during project execution.
• Collaborate with U.S.-based teams to meet schedules and quality goals.
• Contribute to standards development and best practices.
