Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a highly skilled AI engineer to join the Hivemind SDK State Estimation & Vision team. You will develop deep learning models for vision-based navigation when GPS is unavailable, and own the full model development pipeline from data preparation to deployment.

Strong background in 3D computer vision, geometry, and practical experience with PyTorch is required. The role emphasizes robust localization, performance profiling, and collaboration with flight-test teams.

Qualifications

• M.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Robotics, CS, or related field with 4+ years of experience (MS) or 2+ years with a Ph.D.
• Hands-on PyTorch experience including training, debugging, and evaluation.
• Strong foundations in camera models and multi-view geometry with practical vision/navigation experience.
• Strong Python skills and ability to translate research into working software.
• Experience building data pipelines, dataset versioning, and reproducible training workflows.
• Ability to profile inference latency and advise on deployment optimizations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate models for feature detection, matching, and depth estimation.
• Combine learned representations with geometric methods to improve localization.
• Own data preparation, annotation needs, labeling tools, and quality checks.
• Design reproducible training workflows with experiment tracking and versioning.
• Develop evaluations for model performance and localization across lighting, viewpoint, altitude, and weather.
• Collaborate with state estimation engineers to integrate measurements into VIO and terrain-relative navigation.
