WSP COLOMBIA SAS seeks a Mechanical Engineer – Hydro & Dams to join a multidisciplinary team in Colombia. The role covers design, analysis, assessment, and implementation of mechanical systems for hydro facilities, dams, and water conveyance projects.

The candidate should have 6–9 years in hydro, dams, water resources, or major infrastructure, with advanced English and French proficiency. A Professional Engineer designation is preferred and collaboration across teams is essential.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Master's degree in related field is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer designation or eligibility preferred.

Responsabilidades

  • Design and analyze mechanical systems for hydroelectric facilities, dams, pumping stations, and water conveyance infrastructure.
  • Support the design and specification of turbines, gates, penstocks, valves, hoists, piping, cooling, and hydraulic systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, data sheets, reports, and design documentation.
  • Evaluate existing hydroelectric and dam infrastructure for improvements and rehabilitation.
  • Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams.

WSP is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Hydro & Dams to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will support the design, analysis, assessment, and implementation of mechanical systems for hydroelectric facilities, dams, water conveyance systems, and related infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will have 6 to 9 years of experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in hydroelectric facilities, dams, water resources, power generation, or major infrastructure projects. Due to the global nature of our projects, advanced English and French proficiency is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze mechanical systems for hydroelectric facilities, dams, pumping stations, and water conveyance infrastructure.
  • Support the design and specification of turbines, gates, penstocks, valves, hoists, piping systems, cooling systems, hydraulic equipment, and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, equipment data sheets, reports, and design documentation.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations of existing hydroelectric and dam infrastructure.
  • Support rehabilitation, modernization, and upgrade projects.
  • Perform equipment selection and technical evaluations.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, commissioning, startup, testing, and operational evaluations.
  • Review vendor documentation, shop drawings, and contractor submittals.
  • Support dam safety programs and asset management initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulations, client requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk assessments, and proposal preparation.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients and stakeholders in English and French.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Hydropower Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or equivalent) designation, or eligibility for registration, is preferred.
Experience
  • 6 to 9 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience supporting hydroelectric, dam, water resources, power generation, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in the design, operation, assessment, or rehabilitation of mechanical systems associated with hydroelectric facilities.
  • Experience supporting projects through feasibility, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles related to hydroelectric and dam infrastructure.
  • Experience with turbines, gates, valves, penstocks, hydraulic systems, lifting equipment, and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, and power generation systems.
  • Familiarity with international engineering standards and industry regulations for hydropower and dam projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, ANSYS, or similar engineering software.
  • Ability to prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Experience reviewing vendor documentation and coordinating with suppliers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
Language Requirements

Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal) – Mandatory.

Advanced French proficiency (written and verbal) – Mandatory.

Ability to prepare technical reports, presentations, and client communications in both languages.
