WSP COLOMBIA SAS is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer specialized in Hydro & Dams to support planning, analysis, and design of geotechnical aspects for hydroelectric and dam projects. You will lead investigations, perform advanced analyses, and prepare technical reports while coordinating with civil, structural, hydrotechnical and environmental teams.

The role requires 6–9 years of relevant geotechnical experience and advanced English and French proficiency to engage on international projects.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/geotechnical engineering required.
  • Master's in geotechnical or related field preferred.
  • PE designation or eligibility preferred.
  • 6–9 years' geotechnical experience preferred.
  • Experience with hydroelectric, dam, or major infra projects.

Responsabilidades

Geotechnical Engineer - Hydro & Dams
Position Summary

WSP is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer - Hydro & Dams to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will support the planning, analysis, design, and assessment of geotechnical aspects related to hydroelectric, dam, water resources, mining, and major infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have 6 to 9 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering and exposure to hydroelectric, dam, or large civil infrastructure projects. Due to the global nature of our projects, advanced English and French proficiency is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support geotechnical investigations, site characterization programs, and interpretation of subsurface conditions.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses related to foundations, embankments, retaining structures, slopes, tunnels, underground works, and water-retaining structures.
  • Develop geotechnical designs and recommendations for dams, spillways, intake structures, powerhouses, and related infrastructure.
  • Conduct slope stability, seepage, settlement, deformation, and bearing capacity analyses.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, and contract documentation.
  • Review geological, geotechnical, and laboratory testing data.
  • Support dam safety assessments, risk evaluations, and rehabilitation projects.
  • Develop geotechnical models and numerical analyses for complex engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, hydrotechnical, electrical, environmental, and geological specialists.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including field inspections, monitoring, contractor reviews, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulations, dam safety guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and proposal preparation.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders in English and French.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or equivalent) designation, or eligibility for professional registration, is preferred.
Experience
  • 6 to 9 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience supporting hydroelectric, dam, mining, water resources, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with geotechnical investigations, engineering analysis, foundation design, and technical reporting.
  • Experience with dams, embankments, water-retaining structures, and dam safety programs is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting projects through feasibility, detailed design, construction, and operational phases.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary and international project teams.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, seepage analysis, and slope stability assessment.
  • Experience with GeoStudio, PLAXIS, Rocscience Suite, FLAC, RS2, Slide, Settle3, or similar software.
  • Familiarity with dam safety regulations, geotechnical engineering standards, and industry guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret geological and geotechnical investigation data and develop engineering recommendations.
  • Experience with numerical modeling and advanced geotechnical analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of risk-based assessment methodologies for dams and hydraulic structures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
Language Requirements
  • Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal) - Mandatory.
  • Advanced French proficiency (written and verbal) - Mandatory.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, studies, presentations, and client communications in both languages.
