WSP is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Hydro & Dam to join our multidisciplinary team in Colombia. You will design, analyze, and implement mechanical systems for hydroelectric facilities and dam infrastructure, contributing across feasibility, detailed design, procurement, construction, and operation phases.

Ideal candidates have 6–9 years of mechanical engineering experience in hydro projects and advanced English and French proficiency.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree required in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Master's degree in related hydropower/energy domains is a plus.
  • P.Eng. or eligibility for registration preferred.

Responsabilidades

  • Design and analyze mechanical systems for hydro facilities, dams, pumping stations, and water conveyance infrastructure.
  • Support design and specification of turbines, gates, penstocks, valves, hoists, cooling, piping, hydraulic equipment, and ancillary systems.
  • Prepare calculations, technical specs, data sheets, reports, and design docs.
  • Assess existing hydro and dam infrastructure for maintenance and upgrades.
  • Support rehabilitation and modernization projects for hydro facilities and water control structures.
  • Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors through project execution.
  • Conduct equipment selection and technical evaluations for mechanical systems.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and value engineering.
  • Assist commissioning, startup, testing, and performance evaluations.
  • Review vendor docs, shop drawings, and submittals.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, geotechnical, hydrotechnical, electrical and environmental teams.
  • Support dam safety programs and asset management for mechanical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulations, and client requirements.

WSP is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Hydro & Dams to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will support the design, analysis, assessment, and implementation of mechanical systems associated with hydroelectric facilities, dams, water conveyance systems, and related infrastructure projects. This role involves contributing to projects through all phases, including feasibility studies, detailed engineering, procurement support, construction, commissioning, and operational assessments.

The ideal candidate will have 6 to 9 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, with exposure to hydroelectric generation facilities, dams, water resources projects, or major infrastructure developments. Due to the global nature of the projects and stakeholders, advanced English and French language proficiency is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze mechanical systems for hydroelectric facilities, dams, pumping stations, and water conveyance infrastructure.
  • Support the design and specification of turbines, gates, penstocks, valves, hoists, cooling systems, piping systems, hydraulic equipment, and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, equipment data sheets, reports, and design documentation.
  • Conduct mechanical assessments and evaluations of existing hydroelectric and dam infrastructure.
  • Support rehabilitation, modernization, and upgrade projects for hydroelectric facilities and water control structures.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors throughout project execution.
  • Perform equipment selection and technical evaluations for mechanical systems and components.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and value engineering initiatives.
  • Support commissioning, startup, testing, and operational performance evaluations.
  • Review vendor documentation, shop drawings, and contractor submittals.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, geotechnical, hydrotechnical, electrical, and environmental specialists.
  • Support dam safety programs and asset management initiatives related to mechanical infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, industry regulations, client requirements, and best practices.
  • Contribute to project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk assessments, and technical proposal preparation.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, project teams, contractors, and stakeholders in both English and French.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Hydropower Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or equivalent) designation, or eligibility to obtain professional registration, is preferred.
Experience
  • 6 to 9 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience supporting hydroelectric, dam, water resources, power generation, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in the design, assessment, operation, or rehabilitation of mechanical systems associated with hydroelectric facilities.
  • Experience supporting projects through feasibility, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles related to hydroelectric and dam infrastructure.
  • Experience with turbines, gates, valves, penstocks, hydraulic systems, lifting equipment, and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, and power generation systems.
  • Familiarity with international engineering standards and industry regulations applicable to hydropower and dam projects.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, ANSYS, or equivalent.
  • Ability to prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Experience reviewing vendor documentation and coordinating with equipment suppliers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation tools.
  • Strong technical writing and reporting capabilities.
Language Requirements
  • Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal) – Mandatory.
  • Advanced French proficiency (written and verbal) – Mandatory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in multicultural and international project environments.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, presentations, and client communications in both English and French.
