Organizational context: This role is within the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC) in Bogota. The Close Protection Officer reports to the Close Protection Coordinator (CPCO) via the Protective Services Unit (PSU) Team Leader, operating under the Integrated Security Workforce framework for UNDSS Integrated Security in Colombia.

Job purpose: The Close Protection Officer (CPO) or Security Liaison Officer (SLO) provides essential protective services as directed by senior security professionals. This role supports the Close Protection Team Leader (CPTL) in executing duties as assigned by the CPCO, adhering strictly to UNDSS Personal Protection Services Operations Manual and related policies. The incumbent will contribute to training Close Protection Assistants (CPAs), supervise national drivers when necessary, assist in determining equipment and supply needs, and perform other related duties to ensure the safety and security of personnel within the mission's operational context.

Responsibilities: The Close Protection Officer will act as a CPO or SLO as required, supporting the Close Protection Team Leader and reporting to the CPCO. Key duties include conducting protective services in accordance with UNDSS operational manuals and policies. The role involves assisting in training sessions for Close Protection Assistants on current tactics and techniques. Additionally, the incumbent will supervise national drivers, contribute to the assessment of equipment and supply requirements for operations, and undertake any other assigned duties to ensure effective security provision.

Education: A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Technical training in military or police procedures, close protection, self-defense, and security techniques is also required. A valid driver's license is mandatory, and the UN Close Protection Officer Certification (CPOC) is desirable.

Work experience: A minimum of six years of progressive experience in close protection with a security organization is required, including experience with UN Common System or comparable international organizations. Proficiency with close protection weapons, communications, surveillance equipment, and vehicles is essential. Experience in static and mobile protection, and in conducting close protection training, is desirable.

Skills: Professionalism, excellent knowledge of close protection tactics and techniques, ability to react to threats, stress management, commitment to gender equality, effective communication (written and verbal), and strong planning and organizing abilities.
