The organization operates as a crowdfunding platform that unlocks capital for borrowers through loans supported by individuals around the world. Kiva’s lending model enables lenders to start with as little as $25 to support causes that matter most to them, including gender equity and support for women, refugees, climate change initiatives, small businesses, and agriculture. Since its founding, Kiva has facilitated investments from over two million people who have collectively invested more than $2 billion in real dreams and real opportunities. These funds have reached more than 100 countries and supported over 5 million borrowers. The organization maintains a strong commitment to building and retaining a global team of talent that reflects its values-driven and digital-first culture. Kiva’s team consists of over 700 volunteers and 130 full-time employees dispersed around the world, with major team hubs located in San Francisco, Nairobi, Bogotá, and Bangkok. The organization is guided by core values including impact first, extreme ownership, curiosity and boldness, inclusion, equity and diversity, honor and integrity, and love and kindness. Kiva continues to expand its operations and pursue new opportunities to scale its impact and create a more financially inclusive world.
The Capacity Building Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that Kiva effectively realizes its impact strategy by supporting lending partners to scale and deepen their impact through targeted capacity building and technical assistance. This position primarily manages Kiva’s capacity building efforts with partners in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in Asia, while supporting the implementation of the organization’s programmatic grants portfolio overall. Kiva’s capacity building activities encompass comprehensive support to local lending partners, including impact measurement, needs assessments, information technology enhancements and digitalization, staff training, product assessment and design, and strategies for scaling operations. The Capacity Building Manager joins Kiva’s impact team, which is responsible for developing and operationalizing Kiva’s impact strategy and frameworks across all impact lines. This role reports to the Senior Director of Impact and involves close interaction with the wider investments team. The position requires frequent cross-functional collaboration with Investment Managers, Investment Associates, and marketing and fundraising teams. The Capacity Building Manager fills an essential function by ensuring that Kiva’s partners continue to deepen their impact on borrowers and other stakeholders, thereby contributing to the organization’s achievement of its Key Impact Indicators. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Grants Manager, the Impact Manager, and the Senior Director of Impact to develop and implement a capacity building strategy that is responsive to partner needs, drives improved borrower outcomes, and strengthens Kiva’s broader ecosystem. The role involves assisting the Investments and Strategic Partnerships teams in both developing and reporting on grants and funds. Additionally, the position requires supporting regular reporting activities, such as investor quarterly reports, as well as responding to ongoing requests for impact data and insights from Product, Marketing, Communications, Impact Investments, and Strategic Partnerships teams.
