FinOps Weekly is seeking a Technology Cost Management Analyst to oversee IT financial processes, including cost distribution, accruals, and budget alignment across IT and Finance. You will code and review SAP invoices, manage cost reallocations, and support cloud service cost tracking.

The role emphasizes analytical problem-solving, strong Excel and ERP experience, and clear communication with global teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and cost transparency across the organization.

Technology Cost Management Analyst

About the Role

The Technology Cost Management Analyst supports accurate, timely financial processes across the IT organization. The role examines IT financial data, maintains budgetary alignment, and supports cost distribution and reconciliation activities. This position manages the financial treatment of IT services and assets, including recurring charges, usage-based services, software licensing, prepaid services, and reservation costs. It helps align IT and Finance by accounting for differences in billing timing, prorated licensing, purchase orders, and monthly reclassifications. The analyst works across IT and collaborates with Finance, Tax, HR, and operational platform finance contacts. The role also supports the development of new cost distribution processes when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Track vendor invoices against purchase orders for goods.
• Code and review invoices in SAP.
• Perform monthly cost reclassifications, including:
  • Distributing invoice costs across multiple cost centers using vendor- or FLS-owner-provided reports.
  • Allocating prepaid service costs across future service periods through monthly reclasses.
  • Redistributing software licensing reservation costs to users based on vendor-provided lists.
  • Reclassifying US IMACD purchases, and other applicable purchases, made through the Corporate Pcard.
• Complete monthly accruals, including:
  • Reviewing purchase order and invoice logs for status, balances, and inquiries.
  • Accruing cloud-based storage and services.
  • Processing other accruals as needed.
• Perform budget analysis and cost comparisons.
• Support existing cost distribution processes and help create new processes when required.
• Analyze financial data and investigate errors.
• Coordinate with IT, Finance, Tax, HR, and operational platform finance contacts.

Required Skills

• Expert-level Excel proficiency, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, data analysis tools, and complex charting.
• Strong experience with SAP or another major ERP system.
• Ability to run advanced queries in General Ledger and Accounts Payable.
• Ability to look up customer information in Accounts Receivable and export data for review and analysis.
• High attention to accuracy when handling financial data.
• Ability to analyze and resolve data errors.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Ability to communicate effectively with recipients across global teams.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working in large organizations with multiple legal entities, including billing and transferring monthly costs between organizations or legal entities.
• Ability to explain complex cost distribution concepts to employees with little or no IT experience.
• Understanding of reclassification and cost distribution processes.
• Analytical problem-solving skills, including the ability to develop creative solutions with management guidance when needed.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP and SOX regulations.
