Job summary

Athenaworks is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to mature our lakehouse architecture and own critical data systems. You’ll manage high-throughput streaming ingestion, Iceberg table design on S3, and Redshift models powering reporting.

This hands-on role requires architectural judgment and mentorship in a small, senior team. You’ll work across the pipeline with Kinesis/Firehose, Iceberg, and Redshift, while collaborating with analysts to meet reporting needs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data engineering experience with high-volume data systems.
• Strong JVM experience (Java/Kotlin) in production services.
• Kotlin experience strongly preferred for streaming apps.
• Proficiency in Python for tooling and scripting.
• Solid SQL and data warehouse modeling skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate streaming data pipelines (Kinesis, Firehose).
• Own and evolve S3 + Iceberg raw data layer with cost/performance tuning.
• Build and maintain Redshift-based curated tables for analytics.
• Contribute to Kotlin-based event registration apps and streaming)
• Improve reliability, observability, and data quality across the pipeline.
• Shape lakehouse architecture decisions and scaling strategies.
• Collaborate with analysts to align reporting needs.
• Mentor engineers on data engineering practices in a small team.
