Glencore Copper SAOP in Chile seeks a senior in-house lawyer with a track record supporting major mining, energy or infrastructure projects. You will work across permitting, contracts, risk, and governance to enable project execution.

The role requires a Chile-qualified attorney with strong English, cross-cultural collaboration skills, and experience advising on environmental permits and compliance throughout development, construction and operation phases.

Formación

• LL.B. degree from a Chilean university.
• Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Chile.
• Knowledge of Environmental law and permits regulations.
• Upper intermediate English level.
• Cross-cultural communication skills.

Responsabilidades

• Legal aspects of environmental assessments across project stages.
• Advise on project permitting requirements and regulatory approvals.
• Engage with external lawyers and advisors to ensure timely advice.
• Provide legal support throughout project development, permitting, construction and operations.
• Draft, review and negotiate project agreements and contracts.
• Ensure governance with internal policies and applicable laws.

Purpose and objective

Ensure effective legal support and governance throughout the project lifecycle, providing advice on contract management, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and dispute avoidance. The role contributes to the business by safeguarding the company's legal interests, enabling successful project execution, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. It adds value by identifying and mitigating legal risks, enhancing contractual protections, and supporting informed business decision-making to achieve project objectives.

Education And Skills

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited Chilean university.
• Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Chile.
• Demonstrated understanding of Environmental law and permits regulations. LLM would be an advantage
• At least Upper Intermediate English level
• Cross-Cultural Communication skills

Experience Required

• Minimum 7 years of post-qualification experience as an in-house lawyer or external counsel supporting major projects, infrastructure, mining, energy or natural resources operations.
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial and project-related contracts.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborated with multiple groups of internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience supporting major projects, preferably in the mining, energy, infrastructure or natural resources sectors

Responsibilities

• Legal aspects of Environmental assessments: Participates in all the stages of the environmental permits of projects
• Advise on project permitting requirements and regulatory approvals: Provide accurate advice to the permit department for the development of the projects
• Engage with external lawyers and advisors: Ensure the timely and effective delivery of external legal and specialist advice
• Project execution support: Provide legal advice throughout project development, permitting, construction and operational phases.
• Contract drafting, review and negotiation: Draft, review and negotiate project agreements and commercial contracts.
• Governance: Ensure compliance with internal governance requirements and applicable laws.
