Job summary

Google is seeking a Staff Research Software Engineer in Zurich to translate scientific AI research into scalable software systems. You will lead the Co-Scientist team, architect multi-agent reasoning models, and collaborate with researchers across Google and academia.

The role focuses on end-to-end ownership, designing and deploying AI solutions, and mentoring junior engineers within a fast-paced environment at Google Cloud AI Research in Switzerland.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of software development experience including testing and launching software products.
• 3 years optimizing ML infrastructure (deployment, evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).
• 2 years experience with GenAI techniques or GenAI concepts.

Responsibilities

• Own projects end-to-end from initial concepts through design, testing, deployment, and analysis.
• Build and deploy agentic AI systems with multi-agent prompting and task execution.
• Drive technical decisions and full-stack development using Python, C++, and core Google back-end tech.
• Design robust evaluation pipelines, tests, and datasets to measure agent performance at scale.
• Collaborate on research with Google DeepMind, Google Research, and universities; mentor engineers.
