Job summary

Comfone AG in Bern is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our on-site development team. You will develop scalable backend solutions for large-scale data processing and participate in the complete application lifecycle.

The role requires a solid Java background, familiarity with Spring Boot, Kafka, and Flink, and hands-on experience with testing frameworks like JUnit. Fluency in English is desired, Swiss or EU/EFTA work permit holders are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS/related field or Swiss apprenticeship.
• 2–6 years of backend development experience, focus on Java.
• Solid object-oriented programming skills in Java.
• Experience with testing frameworks (JUnit).
• Knowledge of databases; MongoDB is a plus.
• Familiarity with Spring Boot, Kafka and Flink is beneficial.
• Big Data or large-scale processing experience is a plus.
• Proactive ownership mindset and initiative to improve systems.
• Good English skills; other languages are a plus.
• Swiss/EU/EFTA work permit (B or C) preferred.

Software engineer (80%-100%)

To start work immediately or at a later date by agreement.

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our dedicated development team on Site in Bern.

Your main tasks

• Develop scalable backend solutions for large-scale data processing
• Engage in the full life-cycle application development, including user requirements, specifications, design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and maintenance
• Implement high-quality, reusable, and well-tested software solutions using object-oriented programming languages such as Java

Your ideal profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline, or a completed apprenticeship in computer science with a Swiss Federal Certificate of Competence
• 2-6 years of professional experience in backend development, ideally with a strong focus on Java
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, preferably using Java
• Hands-on experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit
• Strong knowledge of database systems; experience with MongoDB is considered an advantage
• Familiarity with technologies such as Spring Boot, Kafka, and Flink is beneficial
• Experience working with Big Data or large-scale data processing environments is a plus
• A proactive mindset with a sense of ownership, demonstrating initiative in improving systems and optimizing processes.
• Good knowledge of the English language (written and verbal); additional languages are an advantage
• Swiss or EU/EFTA citizen (with a work permit B or C)
