Senior System Engineer - Linux

Location: Zurich Area (Hybrid)

We are collaborating with one of Switzerland's top universities to recruit a Senior System Engineer - Linux who is eager to contribute significantly within a dynamic and agile ICT environment.

Your Role

• Manage and continuously enhance a resilient Linux server infrastructure, both on-premises and in Azure Cloud
• Ensure operating system security, and oversee selected database and web server components
• Design and maintain container platform infrastructure (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) integrated with CI/CD pipelines
• Administer logging systems (Elastic Stack) and assist with integration into security operations (SIEM)
• Develop and optimize monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Icinga) in partnership with ICT teams
• Lead automation efforts using SaltStack and various scripting languages
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and agile ICT teams to support ongoing digital transformation initiatives

Your Profile

• Degree in IT or equivalent professional experience as a Linux System Engineer
• Demonstrated experience managing infrastructure technologies (e.g., BIG-IP, Elastic, Icinga)
• Skilled in automation and configuration management tools
• Solid foundational knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, reverse proxy)
• Familiarity with storage systems (e.g., NetApp) is advantageous
• Service-oriented mindset with a strong emphasis on innovation and quality
• Strategic thinker capable of translating operational requirements into practical solutions
• Strong communicator and collaborator, able to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders
• Experienced in agile frameworks such as SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban
• Proficient in both German and English (spoken and written)
