Position Summary
As a “Senior R&D Engineering Specialist for Metal Can Filling & Packaging Equipment” you will work in a multi-disciplinary team, leveraging your experience to scout for relevant new technologies, to drive, develop, apply and maintain solutions and standards for metal can making, filling & packaging lines, in particular: Slitting, Welding, Beading, Flanging, Filling, Clinching, Gassing & Seaming.
In addition, you will support factories in a cross functional network with your specific expert knowledge, coach and support Capex project teams and provide technical assistance to factories in the field of performance improvements, cost reduction & quality.
A Day in the Life of a Senior R&D Engineering Specialist for Metal Can Making, Filling & Packaging Equipment
Identify and develop best-in-class technology partners for metal can making, filling & packaging equipment.
Identify, develop and validate can making, filling & packaging equipment (from experiment to industrialization).
Drive standardization of can making, filling & packaging lines by authoring and owning standards & guidelines.
Ensure standards for can making, filling & packaging lines are implemented in investment projects.
Lead roll out of standardized metal can making, filling & packaging lines in Nutrition plants.
Support industrialization start-ups at factories.
Provide technical assistance to factories.
Lead a cross functional metal packaging community (knowledge sharing, training, feedback to design).
Actively participate in filling & packaging expert networks to promote cross-fertilization between different R&D units.
Coach and guide younger team members and Capex project team members in the area of can making, filling & packaging.
Support factories worldwide to improve production performance by reducing unplanned stoppages.
Provide training for people involved in F&P technology, either on site or virtually.
Identify opportunities related to material, method and machine, providing feedback to design and updates on specifications and standards.
What will make you successful
Background in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering or relevant field.
Strong experience in Filling & Packaging operations in a food factory & manufacturing environment
Solid expertise in Metal Can Making, Filling & Packaging Equipment, with strong experience leading all phases of new equipment implementation projects (concept, validation, commissioning, start-up, …).
Experience in managing suppliers.
Experience in machine and system integration, filling & packaging line simulation, balancing and optimization is a plus.
Experience in the development of engineering projects as part of multidisciplinary teams.
Full business proficiency in English is a must, any other language is a plus.
Strong communication and project management skills as well as networking and teamwork capabilities.
Ready to travel frequently world-wide up to 30%.
