Job summary

Randstad Switzerland is seeking a Senior Plastic Design Engineer for a client in Zizers, Graubünden. You will lead development of high-precision plastic consumables and mechanical components, taking concepts from ideation through series production.

Responsibilities include designing components and assemblies, optimizing injection-molded parts, supporting tooling and materials, and creating detailed manufacturing documentation. Fluency in German (C1) and English (B2-C1) is required.

Qualifications

• Technical education or certification with plastics focus as required.
• Several years of professional plastics development experience.
• Strong hands-on expertise in injection-molded parts and tool design.
• Proficient CAD skills, ideally SolidWorks.

• Design components and assemblies from concept through production launch.
• Develop plastic solutions for consumables and injection molding and integrate into systems.
• Plan and design plastic components from ideation to series production with materials, tooling and manufacturing support.
• Optimize and simulate injection-molded parts and manufacturing processes.
• Create detailed manufacturing documentation including drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
• Source materials and procure components for functional prototypes.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, suppliers, and service providers.

About the role:

As a Senior Plastic Design Engineer, you will lead the development of high-precision plastic consumables and mechanical components, taking innovative liquid handling tools from early ideation through to series production.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Design individual components and assemblies, guiding them from initial concept through production launch.
• Develop mechanical plastic solutions for our liquid handling products—focusing on consumables and injection molding—and integrate them into larger systems.
• Plan and design plastic components from ideation to series production, providing expert support in materials, tooling, and manufacturing technologies.
• Optimize and simulate injection-molded parts and manufacturing processes.
• Create detailed manufacturing documentation, including engineering drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions.
• Source materials and procure components for functional prototypes.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners, suppliers, and service providers.

Requirements:

• Education: Technical studies (University of Applied Sciences / Fachhochschule) or Certified Technician in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on plastics technology, OR completed vocational training (draftsman/designer/mechanic) with extensive practical experience.
• Experience: Several years of professional experience as a development engineer in plastics.
• Technical Focus: Strong, hands‑on expertise in the development of injection‑molded parts and tool design.
• CAD: Proficient 3D CAD skills, ideally with SolidWorks.
• Languages: German (C1) and English (B2–C1) required.
• Hands‑on mentality with enthusiasm for creative solutions and innovative products.
