Job summary

The World Intellectual Property Organization seeks an experienced translator and quality assessor for the Asian Languages Section 1, PCT Translation Division in Geneva. The role focuses on Korean→English translation, quality assessment and mentoring of translators to uphold high publication standards.

You will work on a wide range of scientific and technical patent texts, contribute to terminology resources, and employ CAT/NMT tools to ensure timely delivery under strict deadlines.

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree in translation, modern languages, a technical or scientific field, or in a related field.
• At least seven years of relevant professional experience in technical or scientific translation.
• Mother-tongue level of English and excellent knowledge of Korean (first translation language).
• Ability to translate from English into Korean.

Responsibilities

• Assess the quality of translations from Korean to English and provide feedback to suppliers.
• Provide authoritative answers to translation queries from agencies and end users.
• Translate, post-edit and self-revise texts from Korean into English.
• Train and mentor translators and trainees on PCT translation.
• Contribute to terminology database development and QA measures.
• Assist in selecting translation tests for candidates and providers.
• Use CAT/NMT and AI tools and evaluate their impact on quality and productivity.
• Stay updated on translation developments and best practices.
• Perform related duties as required.
