Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. You will tackle deep distributed systems challenges, focusing on how Elasticsearch scales, performs, and remains resilient, especially in our Serverless offering.

You will work on how nodes communicate, index data, and manage distribution across a cluster. Bring a strong background in distributed systems, consensus algorithms, and core Java.

Qualifications

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong Java core skills and familiarity with concurrency constructs.
• Proficiency in data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with complex, highly distributed systems beyond simple services.
• Ability to own projects end-to-end with technical design and collaboration.
• Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development and debugging.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate core pieces of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve indexing and concurrency across multiple machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination for high performance and resilience.
• Push limits on shards, nodes, and data scale.
• Investigate performance and concurrency issues and propose fixes.
• Support engineering with complex problems and own investigations end-to-end.
