Are you passionate about building scalable systems that empower teams and drive innovation?

Join our Product Core Technology team as a Backend Software Engineer, where you'll help architect, build and maintain GraphQL APIs, Kafka-based, distributed event-driven systems that power our global operations.

You'll play a key role in ensuring that Product Information flows efficiently across platforms, including our website, mobile app, internal applications and external partners. You will directly contribute in turning Product Data into a strategic competitive advantage, accelerating the speed of On's innovation and go-to-market.

Your work will enable R&D, product creators and managers, copy and translators, studio and marketing teams to access, manage, and distribute product data with ease.

Your Mission

In Your First Month:

1. Get to know On's product data ecosystem and infrastructure
2. Build relationships with key stakeholders across R&D, product, marketing, engineering, and studio teams
3. Contribute to code reviews, ensuring high-quality, secure, and well-tested code

After Three Months:

1. Implement new features and services to enhance our data infrastructure
2. Contribute to our GraphQL API development
3. Work on our Kafka-based event streaming system for real-time data distribution

After Six Months and Beyond:

1. Identify and implement architectural improvements for scalability and performance
2. Streamline data management processes and simplify existing systems
3. Champion best practices for API development within the team

Your Responsibilities

1. Develop & maintain robust, scalable backend systems using TypeScript and Node.js (experience with Ruby is a plus)
2. Leverage event-driven architecture, utilizing Kafka for real-time data streaming
3. Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, marketers, and studio teams to understand their data needs and deliver effective solutions
4. Document technical architecture and share knowledge with your team

Your Story

1. Experienced in backend development, particularly with Node.js and TypeScript
2. Experience in building GraphQL APIs
3. Familiar with event-driven architecture and event streaming (Kafka experience is a big plus)
4. Solid understanding of SQL or NoSQL database systems
5. Great communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
6. A self-starter who can work self-sufficiently and drive projects forward
7. Excited to experiment, explore new technologies, and help shape a growing area of our business
8. Comfortable with complexity, ambiguity, and can pivot based on new information
9. See the bigger picture and understand the long-term roadmap while balancing short-term priorities

Bonus Points If You Have:

1. Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP
2. Previous experience with AI and ML or strong personal interest
3. Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
4. A track record of building internal tools that improve workflows
5. A passion for sports
