Job summary

Union Bancaire Privée in Geneva seeks an experienced Database Engineer to modernize the bank’s data layer on Sybase ASE and Sybase IQ. You will optimize stored procedures, re-engineer UNIX ksh and SQL scripts, and ensure reliable ETL pipelines for operational and transactional data.

The role requires strong SQL, data modeling, and performance tuning, plus .NET/C# exposure and experience with Agile tools like JIRA/Confluence. Fluent English and French are expected, with Swiss residence.

Qualifications

• Experience with Sybase ASE/IQ and large analytical workloads.
• Proficient SQL including complex stored procedures and tuning.
• Strong data modeling for transactional and analytical data.
• Experience in UNIX shell scripting and batch processing.
• Familiarity with .NET/C# and modern development patterns.

Responsibilities

• Review data systems to identify improvements and optimization.
• Design, develop, and maintain stored procedures on Sybase ASE/Sybase IQ.
• Optimize database performance through indexing, partitioning, and query plans.
• Rewrite UNIX ksh and SQL scripts with modern structures and logging.
• Develop and manage on-premises applications using .NET and Angular.
• Build and support ETL/ELT workflows with data ingestion, validation, transformations, reconciliation, and scheduling.
• Ensure data quality and reliability for daily/weekly/monthly cycles with monitoring and alerts.
• Collaborate with Finance/Operations to translate requirements into robust solutions.
• Troubleshoot production incidents with root-cause analysis and SLAs.
