Job summary

Worldline in Switzerland is seeking an Application Database Engineer for its High Availability Frontoffice Platform. You will join a dedicated team working on major cloud migration to PostgreSQL while maintaining Oracle databases, supporting DevOps, and driving performance optimisations.

The role requires strong production database experience, proficiency in PostgreSQL and Oracle, and the ability to coordinate large-scale changes across environments.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years’ hands-on experience administering production databases, with strong PostgreSQL and Oracle expertise.
• Proven ability to optimise queries, schemas and performance, and troubleshoot database issues.
• Experience managing database incidents and root-cause analysis in highly available environments.
• Experience with database monitoring, capacity planning, cloud migrations, and coordinating changes across environments.
• Awareness of database security best practices and PCI-DSS compliance.
• Ability to work independently, document clearly and collaborate under pressure.
• Fluent in English; French and German are a plus.

The opportunity

Join our High Availability (HA) Frontoffice Platform team as an Application Database Engineer, where you'll work alongside 7 dedicated professionals including Application Database Engineers, Cloud Engineers and Site Reliability Engineers, working on exciting projects including our major cloud migration to PostgreSQL.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

• Support DevOps teams with database-related requests, document and promote departmental standards


• Lead and coordinate database migrations, with focus on the major cloud migration to PostgreSQL while maintaining our Oracle databases, working closely with System DBAs and departmental teams


• Collaborate with external partners (e.g. infrastructure providers) and teams inside and outside the department on all database-related questions and requests


• Monitor database performance, ensure zero-downtime, system compliance and vulnerability management, and implement optimisation strategies


• Work transversally with other systems and operations entities on common subjects


• Participate in remunerated on-call duties (3rd level support) throughout the year, ensuring end-to-end operational continuity of both the database infrastructures and the applications they support

Who Are We Looking For

• At least 5 years’ hands-on experience administering production databases, with strong expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle


• Proven ability to optimise queries, schemas and database performance, and troubleshoot application database issues, including execution plans, locks, connection pooling and query patterns


• Experience managing database incidents and conducting root-cause analysis in highly available production environments, with a focus on minimising downtime


• Experience with database monitoring and capacity planning, as well as cloud platforms and database migrations. Ability to coordinate complex changes across environments and support database changes with development teams and other stakeholders


• Awareness of database security best practices and compliance standards such as PCI-DSS


• Ability to work independently, maintain clear documentation and follow established processes, while collaborating effectively with technical teams and external partners, even under pressure


• Fluent in English; French and German are a plus.
