The Inter-Parliamentary Union is looking for a new Secretary General with the leadership, vision, drive and experience to take this unique organization forward in its work to strengthen democracy around the world.

The IPU is the global organization of national parliaments. It was founded in 1889 as the first multilateral political organization in the world, encouraging cooperation and dialogue between all nations. Today, the IPU comprises 181 national Member Parliaments and 15 regional parliamentary bodies. It promotes peace, human rights, democracy and sustainable development. It helps parliaments become stronger, younger, greener and more gender-balanced.

The IPU is now looking for a talented, visionary leader to become its next Secretary General. In the face of major political crises and conflicts around the world, the new Secretary General will need to have the will, commitment, and dynamism to help parliaments address these challenges successfully.

With excellent leadership, negotiating and diplomatic skills, the candidate should have a thorough knowledge of international relations, national parliaments or international parliamentary assemblies. S/he must be able to demonstrate political neutrality and be dedicated to the core values of democracy, human rights, gender equality and parliamentary institutions, as well as to the principles of international cooperation.

The next IPU Secretary General must have a very sound knowledge of English and French. S/he must also be able to thrive in a multi-cultural, multi-political environment and have proven experience in human and financial resources management.
