Job summary

Laelaps AI in Zurich is seeking a Software Engineer intern for robot autonomy. You will develop software that enables legged security robots to perceive, localize, plan, and move across real customer sites.

You will work on the autonomy stack, integrate sensors, and validate your work on real hardware, with mentorship from PhD-level researchers and a fast-moving founding team. This hands-on role emphasizes practical impact from day one.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Depth in perception, localisation and state estimation, or motion planning and navigation.
• Strong coding skills in Python.
• Hands-on experience with ROS 2.
• Comfortable using Linux, Docker and Git in workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve components of the on-robot autonomy stack (perception, localisation, state estimation, planning, navigation).
• Integrate sensors (lidar, cameras, IMU) and process their data in day, night, and adverse weather.
• Reproduce field-deploy issues using logs and simulation; identify root causes and fix at the right layer.
• Design repeatable tests and clear metrics across routes, lighting, weather and site layouts.
• Test software on physical robots and participate in site visits to observe real-world behavior.
• Apply solid engineering practices: code review, version control, reproducible experiments and documentation.
