The Opportunity

Our local product group Insulation & Components is the technology leader in design and manufacture of high voltage transformer bushings. All renowned international companies in the electrical industry, active in power generation, transmission, and distribution, are among our customers. We hold a top position in the high voltage bushing areas worldwide.

Hitachi Energy is looking for an R&D Test and Process Engineer for HV bushings to join our innovative and forward-thinking team in Zurich. In this role, you will perform various testing procedures and inspections in an R&D laboratory environment, including the definition, planning, execution, and analysis of testing processes, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. You will follow and monitor all phases of manufacturing, delivering insights that support the advancement of R&D projects.

How you'll make an impact

  • Ensure all testing operations comply with industry regulations, company policies, and ISO standards
  • Prioritize workplace safety by implementing best practices and fostering a culture of safety among team members
  • Collaborate with project teams to define and plan testing requirements effectively. Partner closely with multidisciplinary teams to outline testing strategies, design effective test setups, and select testing equipment
  • Oversee and execute comprehensive test procedures to ensure products meet specifications and international standards
  • Perform thorough analysis of test data, meticulously documenting findings to verify specification compliance. Contribute to failure analyses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions that improve product reliability
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing testing processes and performance metrics to enhance efficiency and quality
  • Ensure test equipment is used correctly, maintained, and calibrated by authorized personnel at required intervals
  • Coordinate and accompany prototyping activities in the manufacturing environment, collaborating with operations to assess potential process adaptations and handle logistical activities related to prototyping

Your background

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in a HV laboratory testing role and in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in the High Voltage field is advantageous
  • Familiar with the use of standard and industry-specific specialized laboratory equipment
  • Strong understanding of testing protocols, quality standards, and regulatory compliance (e.g., IEC, IEEE, ISO 9001, ISO 45001) and demonstrated proficiency in analytical evaluation and interpretation of test data
  • Effective communication skills in English and German, along with excellent problem-solving abilities to conduct thorough failure analyses and implement corrective actions
