R&D Unit Lead

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will lead the R&D Verification and Validation team within the System Drives R&D organization, providing both technical and managerial support. You will ensure delivery on R&D targets and collaborate closely with key internal and external stakeholders to develop ABB's Medium Voltage System Drives. These products are used across various industries, including marine, renewables, oil & gas, and water.The work model for the role is: hybrid #LI-hybridThis role is contributing to the Motion System Drives in Switzerland.You will be mainly accountable for:•Leading and supporting the R&D Validation and Verification team in meeting technical and project targets, while ensuring a strong safety culture across all activities.•Managing internal processes, capacity planning, team competencies, and full budget responsibility for the cost center, including forecasting, tracking, and resource allocation.•Coaching and developing team members by encouraging collaboration, facilitating knowledge sharing, and ensuring the right mix of skills and engagement across the team.•Providing direct technical skills in Medium Voltage/Low Voltage testing environments, supporting lab infrastructure upgrades, and assisting product and project managers with effort estimations and scenario planning.

Qualifications for the role

• You possess a solid academic background (BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent) and extensive experience in High-Power Electronics, particularly in laboratory infrastructure and testing, with a focus on validation and verification of Medium Voltage converters.
• You are an inspiring leader with the ability to manage and motivate a specialized R&D team; experience in project management is a strong advantage.
• You have direct experience in designing and implementing test setups, as well as executing validation, verification, and certification activities for high-power components and complete converter systems.
• You are a structured, self-organized professional with a pragmatic and goal-oriented mindset, passionate about applied R&D and testing.
• You communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken; German skills are a plus and appreciated in our international environment.
