Job summary

ETH Zurich’s Quantum Device Lab in Zurich invites a Cleanroom Fabrication Engineer to join our interdisciplinary team advancing quantum processor chips. You will work on devices featuring tens to hundreds of qubits and scale microfabricated chips with TSVs, enabling high-quality superconducting films and novel signal routing paths.

The role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, process development, metrology-driven yield improvement, and close collaboration with researchers to ensure high qubit

Qualifications

  • Hands-on cleanroom experience with semiconductor processing techniques (e.g., electron beam lithography, photolithography, dry and wet etching, thin film deposition).
  • Process control: metrology, surface characterization, statistical process control, yield improvement, failure analysis.
  • Specialized equipment: vacuum technology, pumps, UHV systems, leak detection, cryogenic systems.
  • Research experience: ability to demonstrate high-quality reporting examples.
  • Excellent English communication skills; knowledge of German is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Device fabrication: execute and refine micro- and nano-fabrication runs using existing processes.
  • Process development: develop and optimize novel fabrication processes for scalable architectures (high-aspect-ratio TSVs, deep reactive-ion etching, conformal coating).
  • Yield improvement: systematic metrology inspection to improve fabrication yield.
  • High-coherence compatibility: collaborate with lab colleagues to evaluate impact of processes on qubit coherence and ensure high-quality device outputs.
  • Documentation: prepare technical and scientific documentation; track run logs and process metrics.
