The Swiss 3R Competence Centre is a non-profit association, which promotes research, education and communication for the replacement, reduction and refinement of animal experimentation (the 3Rs principle). The Swiss 3RCC is a joint initiative of 11 universities and higher education institutions from Switzerland, the Swiss association of the pharmaceutical industry (Interpharma), the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) and Swiss Animal Protection (SAP).

For our 8-person Directorate team in Bern we are looking for a committed Public Affairs Officer to strengthen our voice in switzerland's public and political arenas. Working both independently and in close collaboration with the Executive Director and communications team, we envision this role as critical in shaping public discourse around the 3Rs and building bridges between key stakeholders and policy makers.

Job Description

As our Public Affairs Specialist, you will work closely with the communications team to:

  • Develop and implement public affairs strategies targeting policymakers, media, and key stakeholders
  • Monitor policy developments relevant to our mission and contribute to position papers and advocacy materials
  • Coordinate public communications campaigns and media outreach in collaboration with the communication team
  • Represent the 3RCC at relevant public events and stakeholder meetings
  • Expand social media strategy for the organisation
  • Support the 3RCC Director in building and maintain relationships with political stakeholders, journalists, and other civil society stakeholders

Candidate profile

Required Education And Background

  • Degree from a Swiss university, university of applied sciences (FH), or teacher education institution (PH) in Political Science, Communication, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in public affairs, political communication, journalism, advocacy, or media relations
  • Strong knowledge of the Swiss political system and policymaking processes

The Following Experience And Knowledge Will Be Favourably Considered

  • Experience with non-profit organisations, think tanks, or governmental bodies
  • Interest in and previous experience in science and/or topics related to animal welfare

Personal Skills And Competences

  • Ability to synthesise complex topics and communicate them clearly to general audiences
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English; French or Italian is a strong asset
  • High degree of integrity and confidentiality
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Professional communication skills in both written and verbal form
