Project Engineer – Experimental Aircraft Management (Aircraft Manager)

As part of Leonardo, Kopter currently develops the AW09, a next generation single-engine helicopter that offers the largest cabin and cargo hold in its category, increased modularity and modern electronic systems. The AW09 delivers latest safety standards as well as more performance and comfort at low operating costs.
Kopter is set to become Leonardo’s Centre of Excellence for new light helicopters and an incubator of new technologies, contributing to the development of hybrid and electrical propulsion systems. Kopter’s 320 talented team members are primarily based in Switzerland, near Zurich and in Mollis (Canton of Glarus).

Your responsibilities

As a Project Engineer – Experimental Aircraft Management within the Airworthiness Office, you will lead the coordination of development and certification flight test. Your key responsibilities include:

• Managing and coordinating safety of flight activities for prototype aircraft, including initial flight clearance, ongoing modifications, and continued airworthiness throughout the test campaign
• Acting as the Design Organization (DO) coordinator for prototype operations, gathering flight test requests, engineering requests. Work in close collaboration with the Flight Test team
• Ensuring the prototype configuration and test environment are representative and compliant for certification and regulatory demonstration purposes
• Developing and tracking the prototype flight clearance plan, including documentation submitted to airworthiness authorities and internal stakeholders
• Overseeing the preparation and maintenance of flight safety statements for all experimental operations
• Verifying the alignment of airworthiness certification flight test activities with the certification program, including coverage of baseline aircraft and optional modifications or kits
• Coordinating flight test scheduling and scope with Flight Test Engineers, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated, and that all certification test objectives are met
• Supporting the DO in airworthiness compliance and maintaining up-to-date certification documentation for prototype activities
• Preparing change classification assessments to determine applicability under DOA privileges
• Assisting with the development of mandatory occurrence reports in the event of unsafe conditions affecting the prototype
• Monitoring and managing updates to Flight Conditions documentation and ensuring consistency across all certification activities

Your qualification & experience

• Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent relevant professional experience
• Sound understanding of Design Organization (DO), Design Assurance System (DAS), and Quality Management System (QMS) frameworks
• Experience with EASA Part 21 Subparts (A, B, D, E, J, H, I, K, P) and a working knowledge of CS-27 (or similar) certification requirements
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the aviation industry
• Demonstrated ability to manage cross-disciplinary tasks involving engineering teams, documentation, and certification entities
• Strong project coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Proficient in English, minimum B2 (verbal & written)
