Job Description

SompoRe is seeking a Pricing Actuary to join our Reinsurance Actuarial Pricing Team in Zurich. The position will work closely with reinsurance pricing actuaries and underwriters.

The role reports to the SVP, Head of Pricing, International Reinsurance, with our preferred location in Zurich. The position is based in the office.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform the pricing of reinsurance treaties for our main lines of business including property, casualty, marine & energy, aviation, credit & surety. This involves:
  • Understanding and preparing client-specific data for the pricing process and system.
  • Discussing requests with underwriters to understand client demand and assess risk.
  • Applying actuarial techniques to derive pricing metrics and analyze year-on-year changes.
  • Documenting methodologies and results.
  • Communicating and explaining pricing results to underwriters and stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with the underwriting team, including attending and traveling to client/broker meetings and representing Sompo professionally.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of our actuarial systems through conceptual input and programming.
• Provide analysis of actuarial model parameters such as exposure curves and trends.
• Train and educate interns in reinsurance pricing, terms, and market practices.
• Engage in various actuarial projects like market studies and profitability analysis as needed.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Strong mathematical background, with a master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or equivalent.
• Willingness to pursue actuarial qualification with a recognized society.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve problems independently.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), capable of interacting with underwriters and clients in non-actuarial language.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in Spanish, Italian, or German is a plus.
• Strong Excel skills; programming skills in C#, SQL, and Visual Basic are advantageous.
• Ability to manage workflow and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to work flexible hours during main reinsurance renewals.
