The University of Lausanne offers an exciting postdoctoral opportunity in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, focusing on the investigation of cell-penetrating peptides and their mechanisms. Join a collaborative research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities, contributing to groundbreaking research in a prestigious institution.
UNIL is a leading international teaching and research institution, with over 5,000 employees and 17,000 students split between its Dorigny campus, CHUV and Epalinges. As an employer, UNIL encourages excellence, individual recognition and responsibility.
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Christian Widmann at the Department of Biomedical Sciences (DSB) of the University of Lausanne. Our group investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the uptake of cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) and physiological proteins carrying CPP sequences, such as homeoproteins.
We have recently uncovered a new endocytic pathway relying on the Rab14 protein (https://www.cell.com/action/showPdf?pii=S2211-1247%2821%2901418-2). A major focus of our research is now to characterize the Rab14-dependent trafficking pathway and to determine how these molecules escape from endosomes when endocytosis is used as the entry route. Our recent findings and ongoing projects provide exciting opportunities for the successful candidate to contribute to our understanding of these fundamental cellular processes.
Expected start date in position : August 2025
Contract length : A one-year contract with the possibility of extension depending on funding and performance
Activity rate : 100%
Workplace : Department of Biomedical Sciences - Rue du Bugnon 7 1005 Lausanne
The newly hired postdoctoral collaborator will use advanced cellular, biochemical, and imaging techniques to study the intracellular trafficking of CPPs and related proteins. She/he will be involved in experimental design, data analysis, and the development of new methodologies to monitor endosomal escape and intracellular delivery. The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate within a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment.
We are seeking a motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher with:
• A PhD in life sciences or a related field
• Strong experience in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry
• Hands-on expertise in cell culture, microscopy, and/or protein trafficking studies
• A background in membrane biology, endocytosis, or intracellular trafficking is highly desirable
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• An exciting research project in a dynamic, internationally recognized laboratory
• A stimulating and collaborative environment within the DSB and the broader University of Lausanne
• Access to state-of-the-art facilities and multidisciplinary expertise
• A one-year contract with the possibility of extension depending on funding and performance
