Job summary

ETH Zürich is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow / Process Engineer to advance metal-assisted chemical etching (MacEtch) on silicon wafers within the ABSOLUTE project. You will join the X-ray Imaging Professorship, collaborating with multidisciplinary academic and industrial partners to develop next-generation X-ray optic microstructures.

Under supervision of Dr. Lucia Romano, you will expand MacEtch testing capabilities, optimize process parameters, and help deliver robust fabrication processes,

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience in semiconductor cleanroom environments with hands-on photolithography and SEM.
• Experience in silicon etching and MEMS fabrication desirable.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and process samples on 4-inch silicon wafers using UV photolithography, thin-film deposition, thermal treatments, and MacEtch
• Perform structural and dimensional characterization using optical microscopy, SEM, and profilometry
• Document fabrication procedures, results, and findings in a structured and traceable manner
• Analyze data, prepare technical reports, and contribute to project deliverables
• Present research outcomes at international conferences, scientific symposia, and internal workshops
• Disseminate results through high-impact scientific publications and collaborative research activities
