Zusammenfassung

ETH Zurich is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to advance experimental fracture mechanics of soft and architected materials. You will design and execute quantitative experiments, employ confocal and high-speed imaging, and analyze displacement and crack-tip fields to understand failure mechanisms.

Collaborating with theory and modeling teams, you will mentor PhD and Master’s students, contributing to impactful, open, and reproducible research in an international setting.

Qualifikationen

• Doctoral degree in mechanics, (civil, mechanical, aerospace, or bio-) engineering, materials science, physics, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience in mechanical testing, experimental design, instrumentation, and quantitative measurements of material deformation and fracture.
• Experience with digital image correlation, particle tracking, high-speed imaging, optical microscopy, or other quantitative optical measurement techniques is highly desirable.

Aufgaben

• Lead experimental research on fracture mechanics of advanced materials, including architected and soft materials, using advanced imaging techniques.
• Use image-based measurement techniques to quantify displacement, strain fields, crack-tip deformation, fracture energy, and rate-dependent behavior.
• Develop optical measurement methods to characterize interfacial contact, deformation, and friction in soft and architected materials.
• Collaborate with researchers in numerical modeling, theory, and soft materials.
• Supervise junior researchers (PhD and Master's students) within SMEC.
• Contribute to a stimulating environment for scientific growth and collaboration.
