Zusammenfassung

ETH Zurich's Professorship of Solid Mechanics (SMEC) seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to lead experimental studies on fracture mechanics of advanced materials, including architected and soft materials. You will employ cutting-edge imaging, such as confocal and high-speed techniques, to quantify crack-tip behavior and deformation.

The role involves developing optical measurement methods, collaborating with modelers, and supervising PhD and Master students in a dynamic, international environment.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in mechanics, materials science, physics or a related field.
• Hands-on experience in mechanical testing, experimental design and instrumentation.
• Experience with optical measurement techniques such as DIC, particle tracking or similar.
• Strong ability to work in English and mentor students; open and reproducible research mindset.

Aufgaben

• Lead experimental research on fracture mechanics of advanced materials.
• Apply imaging techniques (confocal, high-speed) to study crack tips.
• Develop optical measurement methods for interfacial contact and deformation.
• Collaborate with numerical modelers and theorists on integrated studies.
• Supervise junior researchers (PhD/Master students) and contribute to lab leadership.
