Zusammenfassung

ETH Zurich's NCCR Genesis invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to study the evolution of early prokaryotic life within geodynamic and climatic contexts. The role sits at the interface of evolutionary biology, geodynamics, Earth-system science, and planetary habitability.

You will develop interdisciplinary models, work with collaborators, and contribute to publications and conferences. The position is funded for 12 months with extension up to 24 months based on progress.

Qualifikationen

  • PhD in geobiology, Earth sciences, geodynamics, planetary science, computational biology, or related field.
  • Strong experience with interdisciplinary work and computational modelling.
  • Excellent programming and data-analysis skills; able to work independently.

Aufgaben

  • Build models of metabolic communities using existing anaerobic/autotrophic frameworks and new data.
  • Extend carbon/nutrient cycling and atmospheric evolution models for early metabolism.
  • Use geodynamic outputs to explore effects of lithospheric strength and mantle rheology.
  • Investigate how biological evolution may alter planetary conditions and system states.
  • Disseminate findings via publications and international conferences; collaborate with partners.
